Was struggling to get the tCan to connect to the car - I have a VPN, once that was turned off everything worked as usual.

This is a late 2020 J1.1 has 18000 miles with one cell replaced (only green cell below) in a battery recall campaign last year.

Was on a longer journey today and decided to try the battery reset procedure, I had to burn the last 6 miles off round the house (scary!!!), when I got down to 2 miles range and 1% charge, it then went to 0 miles range about 0.5 miles from the house.

I had a new cell fitted to the battery pack about 15 months ago, that cell is the one green one in the image.

I note with interest that SOC in the scan is 5.9%, note the 1% that was shown on the dash, maybe I could have just kept driving / maybe I have not reached the <2% charge that the procedure requires 🤷‍♂️.

I will leave the car for at least 6.5 hours and test again before recharging per @ct14garage instructions 👋👋👋👋👋

After 7 hours here are the results, I can see that the voltages have risen across the board, the Soc state of charge has risen from 5.9% to 7.8%

Here are the results after 18 hours, unfortunately I did not copy the Voltage delta on the first reading which was 0.47V, but can see that delta has reduced and more or less stabilised and the SoC has remained static at 7.8%

Porsche Taycan [FREE] tCAN-Pro - TAYCAN BATTERY DIAGNOSIS FOR THE COMMUNITY 1779434716189-0v

The vehicle state of charge in the Porsche app has risen from 1% to 3% and the range has gone from less than 2 miles to 5 miles.

Would be good to know what the 7.8% State of charge means in real terms, does that mean that I could drive the car for a further 15 miles before the battery is truly flat?

Decided to drive a few miles and pull the batteries down a bit more, dashboard shows 2 miles range and 1% charge.

Time since the start of battery reconditioning 26.5 hours.

Battery voltage delta is getting worse at 0.488v.

Decided to stop torturing the battery after 29 hours, no more capacity, but the delta has recovered a little, now on to steady charge to 100% and hold it there for a while to balance the cells at the highest voltage.

Porsche Taycan [FREE] tCAN-Pro - TAYCAN BATTERY DIAGNOSIS FOR THE COMMUNITY 1779474563470-7v

Left it on charge overnight to get the charge to 100%, good news is the battery delta is 0,059v, not sure why the SoC is 96.6% when the empty battery was showing 5.9%

Will leave it to re-balance for a while to see what happens

Left it for a few hours, the stats seem to be much the same, so assume that is all that can be done.

In conclusion, I can see that there was a capacity increase with the batteries balancing when they were below 2%.

There was an obvious difference in capacity between the cell that was changed 15 months ago and the remainder of the cells when the battery was drained, not so much when charged.

Looking at how long the car took to charge from 0 to 100% overnight:-
  • Porsche charger power: ~6.4 kW for ~13 h from the wall charger, assuming a 90% charger efficiency ≈ 75 kWh delivered into the battery pack.
  • Usable battery capacity when new is ~ 84 kWh, so I now have around 90% capacity compared to when the car was new.

Unfortunately, the scan fails on my side. Cable is plugged into the OBD port fully, ENet shows a green LED in the TCanPro-App, the Taycan is answering, but transmitting the battery data fails.

Might be a VMWare problem. I made sure that only the Windows machine has access to the USB Ethernet Adapter (disabled it in the Mac Settings, answered 'Connect to Windows' after plugging it in).

Update: I logged the IP traffic and can see that there is valid UDS communication between TCanPro and my Taycan. tCAN-Pro requests DIDs, the Taycan delivers them. At some point the Taycan responds with ‚out of range‘. But this does not look like a lower-level-problem, i. e. I do not think the VM is the problem.

FWIW, tCAN-Pro also logs the following error during startup, before it connects to the Taycan. Don't know if that's normal. '[ERROR] File does not exist at: C:\Users\foo\AppData\Local\tCANPro\app-1.0.0\Resources\EV_BECM1982091_007.json'.

In case it is relevant: I have a pre-Facelift 4S with the big battery.

I find it generally takes several attempts to fully connect and read the battery status.

I sit the laptop in the centre console so that I do not nudge it.

I have also found that it will read the battery when the car is powered up.

Just be patient is my advice.

Hm. I tried it ten times again, just for good measure, but no success.

Would be weird anyway, because it is a short wired connection after all, with multiple layers of error correction (Ethernet, TCP, UDS). I also see the exact same sequence in the logs each time. And the Taycan sends back several DIDs without problems, but reports 'out of range' always at the same step.

By the way: I also got hold of a proper Windows laptop now and have exactly the same issues with that one. The 'File does not exist' error is also there.

you need a functioning wired/ wireless connection to the internet while doing this -do you have that?

Found my problem. The download link at the beginning of this thread did not work for some reason, so I thought it must be outdated. Found a github page instead and downloaded files from there. Turns out an important .JSON is missing there.

I tried the download link again tonight, it worked now and included the missing .JSON.

For everyone who might have my problems in the future: Make sure you have EV_BECM1982091_007.json. Everything else is a red herring. Using a VM is also completely fine.

My result:

Before and After tCAN-Pro battery Scan. Before scan shows some red modules. Can anyone tell me Is this normal or is this a sign of a problem down the road. Thanks

Sorry about the lack of info, I was in a rush. Ran my Taycan battery down to 1% , less than 1 mile range. Let it sit locked about 20 hours. Ran tCAN-Pro battery Scan. Got results in first image. Charged it to 97% and let it sit 24 hours. Ran tCAN-Pro battery Scan. Got results in second image. Do the red modules in image show a potential battery issue coming? Or is this just normal?

I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Previously, my DC fast charging speed could reach around 225 kW when the battery SOC was below 20% (Taycan RWD with the 79 kWh battery).

However, over the past three months, I’ve noticed that I can no longer reach peak charging power at DC fast charging stations. Even when my battery level is below 10%, the charging speed still does not reach the expected maximum. The charging power now seems to stay around 180 kW.

I have already checked both the ambient temperature and battery temperature, and both were in the optimal range of around 30 to 35°C. I also confirmed that battery-friendly charging mode is disabled.

At very low SoC some modules could enter the red phase but that's normal.
Once they're past 5-10% or so it'll stabilize more, beter ∆V.
It's good to watch the "red modules" and see if they enter the green zone, in that case there's no problem.
If they would stay red, the ∆V would be much higher.
All good.
