As a developer I think your suspicion looks correct. I guess the hardware specs of anything within a car are also up to debate by financial controlling. Saving a buck here unfortunately translates into quite expensive recalls. However I am not quite sure about the OS and general software stack...

While I am happy that such products exist, their price make them simply uninteresting. And just to compare it to the 22KW onboard AC charger that Porsche cannot replace at the moment there is the problem that many chargepoints in rural or city locations here in Europe offer 22KW AC and not DC.

I would Not buy a car without all available updates.
