My 22Kw (2021) went out with the red circle of death, and they replaced it with an 11Kw one, they knew right away, and they paid for it. It's for AC and most US houses can't supply enough current for 22Kw, so the 11Kw works fine.
5 min charging is great, but remember, power in = power out, so if a car can be charged to 100% today with 250A 800V, it will need 10 times that to do twice as big is 5 minutes.
"some and not all will get passed on" Anyone that thinks the consumer is not paying 100% of all tariffs is high. I'm a manufacturer, and all tariffs get passed on to the consumer, unless the manufacturer is trying not to pass it on. It's a mess and currently all monies are being held in...
Free-wheeling is actually banned in many states, I sent an email to Porsche about this, as early cars had it as a feature and it caused a lot of accidents, SAAB had it as a feature later because of ice on roads. That is like the one valid reason to have it off... as people instinctively lift...
Some fun facts. 22KW at 220-240 VAC is 80-90 AMPS. I know of no homes that can provide that kind of charging. 11KW is 40-45 AMPS, which is what most homes are set up to handle.
11KW isn't a big deal.
They covered mine under warranty. Since this was a defect on their part, it should be covered anyway. They are all literally failing.
Many countries limit warranty regulations, so it isn't always the car manufacturer's fault, but this is clearly not a failure from use or abuse, it is a faulty...
CA has a lot of chargers, but because of the rebates and promotions, there are more cars than chargers. Many of the large chargers have a split setup or shared, depending on the power available
My mom never told me that I would have to share my charger. Geezzz, my toys, my cookies, and now this?
Charging will really heat the battery up. did it show the BATT TEMP on the screen?
We have a 100A panel, the charger is 35A, we have a Model Y and theTaycan. No problems with having only 100A, we don't dry clothes at night nor use the oven. Even if AC comes on, there is so little usage at night that it never causes an issue.
My 2021 did the same, plugged it in one night for a charge with the Tesla AC adapter, and came out in the AM, with the breaker blown, everything red and had to push it out of the garage onto the tow truck. They towed it at there expense, and replaced the charger with the 11K version, $6K but...
I think the updates have lessened the distance. It's a good thing they replaced the charger, mine died at home and it was a warranty replacement as well, the new one is slower, but fixed. The region braking is a bit less as well. I have a 21, and I get about 260M per charge, battery is...
Lithium Ion batteries are never allowed to discharge fully, if the do, they will burn. This is why an old NiCad drill would slowly fade, but a Li-Ion fades for s second and then dies. Most of their battery issues were from draining too low. Of course increasing the cut off threshold reduces...
