Hey everyone. So the dumb ass previous owner of my Porsche screwed in a front license plate directly into the front bumper. As a result I now have 4 holes on there that I would like to have repaired. Most body shops I have spoken with said that they cannot patch up the holes and that the entire bumper will need to be taken off and refinished. The authorized Porsche dealerships body shop went as far as to say that repair wasn’t even an option and that I had to buy a whole new replacement, which is crazy.

Regardless, some body shops have commented that the sensors will need to be recalibrated. Is that truly the case when bumper repair is done? And if so, what should it typically cost.

I’m starting to get afraid of the cost of refinishing the entire bumper and then a calibration on top of that. May consider putting a vanity plate on there, as much as I love the clean look of nothing on front (my state doesn’t require it).

Thanks in advance!

Yes, they need to unmount the bumper for two reasons:
- Need to patch the holes from behind to make it hold properly
- Porsche request to have it unmount for repaint.

BTW it can take up to 5-6 hours to unmount and remount the bumper.

As far as paint It may need recalibration as it may add a layer of paint. Honestly, I think not.

Replacing the whole bumper is totally untrue.

Thanks! Yeah that one body shop is just nuts. They do that shit all the time. But agree with you on the bumper removal.

Waiting to hear more opinions on the recalibration portion.

Hey man as an aside, u can search my history. I got quoted by a body shop about 4k to change the upper and lower portion of my bumper with parts and labor. The recalibration was quoted anywhere between $900 at porsche certified body shop to $1500 at the porsche dealership service center.

If u want certified work they gotta do it by the book I'm guessing. There was really no way around it. Personally I didn't notice any problems with my sensors as I was driving.
