Yeah, but think about it this way. Your new car warranty covers many individual parts that make up a "system" that is your entire vehicle. Every part works together to make sure the entire system functions as designed and built by the automaker.

If you replace an individual part and it is later damaged due to a different failing part after the "system" warranty runs out, the manufacturer doesn't want to be liable for the repair to each part that was replaced beyond the warranty period. They only guarantee each part functions properly within its role in the original system and in conjunction with those original parts.

So they have to maintain everything in the system working together properly through the original warranty, whether original or replaced parts, but nothing beyond that unless there is a separate agreement.

I don't know if it makes sense typed out but it made sense in my head

That is weird though. If the car is new, you get 8 years on the battery, if you replace the battery with a complete new original battery, you only get one year… so better just junk the car, strip it and sell it for parts and then buy a new car? ?
Its 8 years or Xmiles/kms factory warranty. So when replaced, the miles/kms will still be there, voiding the warranty immediately and it is not “factory” anymore. So the 1 year is “service”. Don’t shoot the messenger ?

Still seems strange. They are confident that the battery, when new, goes 8 years or x/KMs, but when you replace the battery with a factory new one, suddenly their confidence drops to 1 year? Maybe it is just me, expecting the battery to be separate from the age of the rest of the car…

They do not have to replace your battery with a new one. This is from the warranty document:

Battery Repair or Replacement If the high-voltage battery requires warranty repair, PCNA will repair the unit or replace it with a new, reconditioned, or remanufactured part at the sole discretion of PCNA. The measurement method used to determine net battery capacity and the decision of whether to repair, replace, or provide reconditioned or remanufactured parts, and the condition of any such replaced, reconditioned, or remanufactured parts, are at the sole discretion of PCNA.

The warranty repair or replacement may not restore the vehicle to a “like new” condition or return the net battery capacity to 100%. When repairing or replacing a high-voltage battery, PCNA will ensure that the energy capacity of the repaired or replacement highvoltage battery is at least the Warranted Value, as defined above. You are required to provide the Porsche authorized dealer consent to access data stored on vehicle systems for the purpose of vehicle diagnosis and repair. Failure to do so will result in denial of warranty coverage.

Note: The vehicle’s range estimates are an imperfect measure of net battery capacity because the vehicle’s range is affected by additional factors separate from battery capacity. Additionally, the performance and durability of the high-voltage battery is temperature-dependent. Colder temperatures will lower the battery’s capacity and the vehicle’s range. Extreme high and/or low temperatures will impact the battery’s service life.

It says “…replace it with a new, reconditioned or remanufactured part…”
So once again; Why doesn’t the new battery have the original 8 year warranty? It’s new…

For the “remanufactured” or “reconditioned” part, I can understand the lesser warranty, just like with the Porsche Engine Rebuild warranty.
But imagine if your engine replacement is brand-new from factory but still getting that same 12 month warranty…

It shows that Porsche is cutting corners on the most expensive replacement part of the Taycan. Imagine paying 50k to replace your battery but basically no warranty… it’s borderline criminal imho.

A lot of people here is hoping that battery tech will improve and battery replacement is cheaper in the future. I really want that to be true that Porsche has their customer's best interests in mind.

Also, I think Tesla is doing the same thing. I would like to know if there is a car manufacturer that warranties past 8 years. I did read that there will be a legislation extending the warranty, I will try to find that article.

I hope so… prices need to drop considerably for repairs and/or warranties need to be better. I feel like they will make the battery packs easily repairable on the next gen taycan, I feel the current J1.1 and J1.2 are not going to see much improvements in repairability. Besides how else is Porsche going to force us into the next one? :CWL:

They improved upon a handful of things of the refresh such as range and charging profiles. Hopefully the repairs, as well.
