Intel on Taycan Replacement (Panamera/Taycan fusion model)

Colleague at Weissach said the reports are true, and that they’re resurrecting the “960” moniker [the original name of the car that evolved into the Taycan] for their new Panamera/Taycan fusion model. 2031 debut.

Interesting that some other major brands are already using, and/or about to reveal very shortly shared platforms for ICE, hybrids, and BEV’s, e.g., BMW’s CLAR platform, Mercedes MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform, and Stellantis.

I believe Porsche economically will do forced to do same for the 960, though intersting that the intel says not until 2031 model year. If the later were to turn out to be correct, either the Taycan continues after this model year both as a 2029 AND as a 2030 vehicle, or there is a period in which it is temporily MIA. Of course, even if evolved Taycans were to become part of a shared 960 platform, would the name “Taycan” then exist as a sub-model of the 960 or by then have become extinct?

The future Panamera won't be ICE.

If that’s the case then there would be no future Panamera. An EV Panamera is the Taycan.

We shall see though. Even Porsche doesn’t know the future of their ICE vehicles.

What we all know is their ICE vehicles make them money. And as long as that’s still the case (and the government doesn’t outlaw them) they’ll continue to exist.

I guess the way I look at it is if the platform comes from Porsche, then its a Taycan and if it predominantly comes from Audi its a Panamera. Nothing wrong with Panamera, it was my first Porsche and I still miss it!

My experience with the BMW i4 (which shared a platform with the ICE 4-series) was very disappointing. Everything about the build was centered around the ICE version - from the drive shaft "hump" running through the rear floor board, a frunk that was not available for any type of storage (it was left alone as an empty engine compartment), to a gauge cluster that displayed the battery charge percentage and the range estimate on opposite sides of the dash - the car was built as a unicorn and not a true EV.

The good news is that the BMW was so disappointing, that after one year, I drove it straight to a Porsche dealership and used it as a trade for my Taycan!

The Taycan isn't perfect, but it is a true EV....and it drives like a Porsche!

Personally, regardless of what it’s going to be called, I really hope Porsche continues to offer a four-door EV estate car. I really do not want an SUV. I need practicality and enjoy driving and hate the high-perched driving position of SUVs. I want a low-slung, practical EV, and the current Taycan CT ticks all the boxes. It’s a superb everyday car. Taycan or Panemara EV, I'm not too bothered about the name. Porsche, please do not force us all into Macan/Cayenne EVs. Keep up the CT formula in some way or other. PLEASE!

By 2031, the market will be vastly different.

I doubt porsche will commit to a new 4 door platform, that allows both power trains, when they barely have enough money to stay afloat, and they already have their own ICE & EV 4 door platform, and also pay audi billions to use the Audi Q5 ICE platform for the next Macan and the Audi PPE platform; plus billions more spent in developing PPE sport.

It's a huge risk - billions, that is likely to not pay off; esecially when they are already spending so much on dedicated platforms.

People have been "leaking" the Panamera EV "rumors" for 4 years at this point.

These are all speculations, wouldn't take any of them seriously.

If Porsche had the money to start developinng a new platform, that would allow 2 power trains, they wouldn't have sold their BuggatiRimac shares just to have 1bil profit for the investor meeting

Best case they pay billions to VW to use the upcoming SSP platform; if it ever sees the light of day; already dealyed by 3 years to 2028; and stuck in CARIAD hell with their VW.OS and Rivian zonal modules - which porsche chose to distance themselves from. And even that, only allows for range extender ICE Engines, and not dedicated ICE power trains - so very much still have EV platform, a heavy not sporty platform.

On that note, now they are left with no supercar for the first time in 40 years while Ferrari/Bugatti/McLaren are crushing it. Even BMW has a forthcoming halo car.

960 will be the model number, as in 964, 997, 987,981 etc.the 'name' could be anything - Taymera, Panacan...
