I don't know.Decades ago SUVs drove like trucks (because they were built on those platforms), cost more than cars and had awful fuel economy.
Modern SUVs drive as well as cars or better, have similar prices and efficiency.
They basically made normal sedans mostly obsolete by getting rid of the tradeoffs.
After each SUV test drive, I find myself going back to cars that are lighter, have a lower centre of gravity, and offer a lower seating position.
For me, seating height determines how connected I feel to a car—how easily I can become “one” with it while driving.
What matters most to me is immediate turn-in: I want the car to rotate into the corner before I feel any body roll. All SUVs seem to lean first and turn second—and that’s simply not for me.
I tested last all the electric Cayennes and agains the latest and greatest anti-roll tech I felt the same.
Not to mention that I always get my shins dirty getting in and out of these high sitters.
