Very good luck to those that are switching to a RR. I had a Velar PHEV from new in 2021 - it was lucky I lived near the dealers as the car went back to them 8 times in 2 years & 18k. All issues with software, the car never let me down but was really frustrating as when I got in it I never knew if there was going to be an ‘issue’. The dealer (Colchester) could not have been more helpful. As I bought the car there they gave me highest priority but in 2023 they were under a sea of recalls and warranty repairs - they were quoting a delay of 3 months for even a standard service. 2 other dealers in the East had issued an ‘emergency situation’ so not taking in any work so the system directed all traffic to Colchester.
I found the car to be great when it was trouble free but a real pain when it wasn’t, so was glad to get rid after 2 years.
I‘m sure they have rectified the issues. The other reason I ditched it was because my insurance was to have more than doubled due to the CanBus thefts. Most members on the RR UK forum were experiencing the same. Again, that may have settled now as RR’s were retrofitted with a plate to prevent the CanBus thefts.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy the cars

I don’t think I can visit a dealer any more than I have done with the Taycan recalls and issues. There are horror stories for virtually all cars. Each brand has good and bad quality cars. At least your LR dealer actively resolved the issues, that’s considerably more than Porsche Chester did. Literally having parts on back order for nearly 2 years (door cards) then losing the order when they were sold to another company, then telling me I’d have to place the order again.

I had a brand new Velar in 2021 as well albeit diesel. Other than a sunroof issue (stopped working, fixed) and a trim that fell off it was brilliant and was gutted to let it go.

I was looking at the RRS in 2023 but ended up ordering a defender. At that time, the RRS insurance was close to 4 grand and i thought sod that. As it is, its now coming up less than the Taycan as I paid £850 in November and its quoting a £60 refund for the remaining term to switch.

It's always a risk and the Taycan will forever be in my heart but hey ho

Actually I do remember your posts on the velar forum as well.

Agree.. I have to chalk this up to a lesson learnt with regards to the loss. Onwards and upwards... Life is too short to worry about trivial matters...
On the plus side. I got a glimpse today of the first panels on the RR with Matte PPF.
I was a little worried at first, but it looks stunning. So a bit more excited now than i initially was.
I always think if you trade or sell a car at the end of it's life with you, it's a result.

I have had cars stolen and not recovered.
Even worse, if a car is written off in an accident.

So, if it's kept you and the family safe for many thousands of miles and hasn't been robbed, then ita a win.

Another shout out for LR/RR - had their products for 15+ years and struggling to think of any significant problem in any of them. Currently have a Defender 90 which is an awesome car. Love the Taycan though, given I charge at home it feels like free driving and the poise on the roads around me is sublime. Love them both for different reasons.

Agree with all of that. I’m going to miss that power and poise, I know I am.

senwar - you’re absolutely right regards the luck of the draw with any new car - most of the issues I had with the Velar were really the software guys and LR being over adventurous in providing novel things. That said, they did have major problems with the new mild hybrid‘s, a colleague had 2 new replacement cars through that.
I stupidly px’d the car against a Lexus RZ 450e as I thought Lexus still made ultra reliable cars - wrong ! The car couldn’t use an a/c charger for 8 weeks due to a failure of a module. Hilariously, Lexus thought the answer to the flat 12v battery issue was to give me a solar charger to plug in the OBD port and leave on the dashboard if parking up the car for more than a few days - I pointed out that wouldn’t be much of a resolution to parking the car at a multi storey airport car park.

That would have been my dream setup. I cancelled a Defender 90 for the Taycan but ideal world would have had both in the family. I was pretty close to picking the 90 again this time (I just love the presence and looks) but decided to go with the higher range PHEV in the RRS. Fingers crossed all good.

I remember you moving on to the Lexus - didn't know you'd had problems with that one though, sorry to hear that. Ruddy hell though!

senwar - I was unlucky, it was one of the first RZ’s in the country. On the other hand, I escaped the really big issue with them. They made an update available that significantly increased the range from a miserable 140 miles to 180 when using the a/c or heating. Mine worked ok. The software guys ‘improved it’ and then when installed in a car with a HUD it trashed the HUD which meant a total removal of the whole dash with the associated creaks and groans when refitted.
I have great hope that the Macan will continue as it has started - trouble free and a great car.
With my mainly local driving the Velar averaged 90 mpg with the electricity cost not much. Yours will be better as they have much further range now. Hope it is a good build !
