Hello,

I have an issue with my 2020 Taycan 4S. Sometimes when I approach the car, it sounds like a tractor (see attached video with audio). Does anyone know what might be causing this? I've had the car for a couple of years, but I only noticed this a few weeks ago.

The sound seems to be coming from somewhere near the front right, and it's most noticeable when standing by the right front wheel.

Perhaps a battery cooling fan.
If you search here, dirt/gravel can affect operation. At some point after 2020 a modified grill was fitted. There’s a TSB.

Yes, I have a 2020 4S and the passenger side fan needed replacement....it was entirely seized.
I our cool climate, i suspect part of the cause of failure was disuse.
The driver's side is noisy, but has not yet failed.

Did you get both fans replaced or just one? I just received my 2020 Taycan back from the dealership for the fan/shroud replacement TSB. Even though I brought it in for inspection per the TSB, the dealership initially wanted to charge me $4k to replace the driver's side fan that seized. I pointed them to the TSB again, and they pushed it with PCNA again and PCNA eventually relented and covered replacement of both fans plus the shrouds with the new design per the TSB. So about $8k of service covered by the TSB.
BTW, performance is significantly improved since the fan replacement. Apparently the seized fan caused performance limiting with no error codes that I could find.

I had only the passenger side fan replaced, but the service tech said he would order a driver's side fan so that it would be available when I need it.
Since I bought Porsche extended insurance, the matter of cost didn't come up....they simple replaced it, no charge. I suspect that the driver's side fan does not get much use since the battery does not get very warm... Most summer mornings the initial battery temperature night time ambient....50-70 degrees F. I can drive 60 miles and the battery temp may only into the 80's F.
Same is true of home charging...it hardly ever gets above 90 degrees, even on long charges.
I don't think I am generating much heat charging at 8.4 KW....I have fast charged on the Thruway about twice in 4 years. The battery appears to be in good shape, giving me 270 miles range on a full charge.....plus/minus 3 miles/KW depending on how I drive, ambient temp, etc. If I hyper mile it, I can get over 300 miles. I think the mild climate in Upstate NY is great for the battery, but not great for the fans, which don't get enough use.

The TSB rework is not only to replace the fans, but also the shrouds, with a new design such that the shrouds prevent road grit from seizing up the fans again. So if you only had a fan replaced, then it will eventually seize up again due to the defective shroud design.
