Nice car! Pretty much my perfect spec (weirdly hard to find Taycans with adaptive cruise control which is bonkers to me. Not sure why you'd buy a 100k+ car without that). Looks like they already sold it. What did you trade it in for?

Yeah it sold within a few days. Suspect dealer had a lead on a buyer before I even traded it -- and I noticed the CarFax showed it got CPO'd by Porsche too. They def make some good money off me in that quick flip; oh well.

Picked up a short term lease (27 month) on a Polestar 2. Not really on-par with the Porsche but the payment was significantly lower than the Porsche and the car will be better for a household teen who will be driving soon. So it made sense, at least, at the time.... but dang, I miss the Taycan CT. :p

Because, paraphrasing a German saying, “if I wanted to get driven, I’d buy a Tesla”?

It must be those Germans saying it who believed Elon in 2016 that their Tesla will drive all by itself. ;)

It was just paraphrasing, the brand was substituted (to protect the innocent ?).(The original is, mot a mot: “if I wanted to drive Mercedes, I’d take a taxi”.)

Right - it’s so much fun creeping along in stop and go traffic. Wouldn’t want to miss out on all that driving engagement!

Good luck with your search, I am sure there are cars with ACC out there. (Not mine, because I don’t want to miss out on any engagement!)

Yeah- i've noticed that some dealers (mostly in the midwest and south) price their Taycans aggressivley and sell them quickly. Meanwhile, on the west coast, dealers seem happy to ask ridiculous amounts, not negotiate and let cars just sit on their lot for months. Very odd.

I recently picked up a cheap 2 year lease on an ID4 for similar reasons. Its really amazing how much refinement and drivability an EV powertrain adds to a mass-market vehicle. I can't imagine picking a 4 cylinder crossover such as a CRV/Rav4/Tiguan or even Q5/X3 over one of the EV choices unless I really, really had no way to charge it.

But, I also see this logic taken too far by some journalists as in "Whats the point of spending money on a Porsche EV when all EVs drive the same". That's also not true as we all know here. On that note, what are the things you miss most about your CT, and what are you pleasantly surprised about with the Polestar?

Great question! There are pros/cons to both sides. As you said, not all EVs drive the same. So without a doubt I miss the chassis dynamics and drive quality of the Porsche.

But the items that have made me happiest about the switch to the Polestar are all things that, if Porsche wanted, could be easily "changed" to improve future cars. As a matter of fact the biggest one is the AAOS (Android Automotive OS) which underpins the latest Volvo & Polestar products, which the new Macan EV PCM will be powered by. It stands to reason that the Google Voice Assistance in the Macan EV will be on parity.

Example: when I hop in my Polestar, by the time my butt hits the seat the car is already awake and ready to go. I can bark a "hey google, navigate to...' command and not only does it work flawlessly, it also works quicker than just about any other car. Even with wireless CarPlay, the latency is better with the Polestar/AAOS than waiting for the ACP to connect, iPhone to find the destination etc

Other little things that bugged me about the Taycan that the Polestar does better: the instrument cluster is laid out better IMO on the Polestar. The rear camera on the Porsche was distorted because of being low mount (but I do miss the 360/rear view side by side).

Last but not least, I like one pedal driving but recognize not everyone does. Even if you dont like it, I wish the Taycan both had that option AND remembered your choice. I always turned max recuperation on in the Taycan but had to do that every startup, and also drive modes were not sticky as we all know. In fairness, the Korean cars (Hyundai Kia Genesis) suffer the same fate, where the recuperation & drive mods Reset each startup sequence. Polestar 1PD is sticky to the car/profile thankfully.

Just some examples... could easily ramble for longer. Again the biggest delta between the two cars is the drive quality/chassis dynamics. Porsche is unparalleled in that regard; even the BMW i4 M50 isn't as good as the Taycan IMO

Makes sense.... like you said hopefully the AAOS based system in the Macan EV will fix many of the deficits in the current PCM. Disappointing that the facelift Taycan will not get that system however. Agree on recuperation (or specificallly lift-off recuperation)-- wish that Porsche could just make that a sticky setting. I actuallly think that's one of the best parts about driving an EV. How does the lift-off recuperation of the Taycan in its max setting compare to the Polestar?

Polestar has 3x settings -- Off, Low, Standard.
Taycan 4 CT "max" sits between Off/Low (Polestar)

Which is to say, the Porsche's max lift off recuperation is still abysmal. However, I do appreciate how the Porsche brake pedal does blend the two, and can provide a great deal of power back into the battery that way. Still, I think it is easier to modulate a single pedal once you get used to it, than to have to move your foot across two surfaces.

And at the end of the day this is ALL software. With the Taycan being drive by wire as almost all cars are these days, it'd not be THAT hard to program that into the pedal with a toggle/option. Give us (consumers) the option. Some people hate it, so fine they don't have to use it; but at least let us decide.
