Do I need to extend the warranty?

Hi everyone. I just picked up my Taycan 4s. Absolutely blown away. The car currently has 3600kls on it and it’s built 2021 MY2022
The warranty of the car ends in 5 days.
Should I extend the warranty? As it’s $2000 and I have never needed a warranty in the past.

it’s going in next week for its recalls by the way.

Extend it. Out of warranty repairs are crippling. Either nickel and dimed to death or blown up.

Yes, $2000 is nothing compared to prices of the parts needed and labour when out of warranty.

Taycan is robust, but when unlucky prices start at $2000. My trunk (ST) broke last year, and cost would have been north of $8k when out of warranty. I still had factory warranty back then, so didn't pay a dime. But the ROI of the warranty is achieved when the first thing breaks.

Battery is not part of the extended warranty and has indeed 8 years or 160k km's factory warranty. So nothing to worry about that one.

In US, if you want "extended warranty"/service plan from Porsche, you must buy it PRIOR to expiration of manufacturers warranty.

Yes, vehicle service plan like the "Porsche" platinum service plan. Porsche name on the plan, sold by Porsche dealers, but plan is contract with a non-Porsche plan provider. And not a "warranty", it's a service plan.

Simple Answer: You do not want to own a Taycan without Warranty and $2K you are quoting sounds way too low, so check what is included. Any part that breaks will require a lot of expensive labor to replace. Yes, HV battery has a long warranty, but there is a lot more to the car than that and there are a few components that are known to fail at scale.

That sounds like an awesome deal but how many miles and years does it cover?
Do you have a list of recalls that you are going for so we can check that out to be sure you get them all done?

This is an example why you need extended warranty. This has been a part that fails at scale and now in the middle of winter in the US/EU the heaters start failing again. Historically, when something like this happens, Porsche extends the warranty for a part for longer for all (i.e., Macan ICE Transfer Case extended to 8 years), however, there has been nothing from Porsche at this time to do so for the Taycan.

Mine built right after the "revised" part was introduced but it is no comfort as recent replacements had been failing after 12 months. Now, as I feel cold air coming out of the vents, I am thinking I am it, but so far I am ok.

Yea don’t hesitate buy that warranty if it’s offered through Porsche. This is not a car to own out of warranty. The smallest error will be more then $2,000.
