I visited my 91 year-old friend Thad to show him my Taycan. He took me for a ride in his '56 356 Speedster. He bought it for $900 in 1971 and has had it ever since. He used to race it on a track at the Santa Barbara airport. The family resemblance is there with the swoopy bodies and the rear wheel motor and drive. The contrast was more pronounced. The 356 is a lot like a Volkswagen, and the Taycan is more like a spaceship. The main difference is that he could sell it and buy three Taycans with the money.

My first Porsche (many years ago!) was a pre-A 356..pretty slow, pretty basic but I loved that car. Essentially it was the first Porsche widely available in the US and, now, with great appreciation for the contrast, I a driving about in my Taycan. Talk about "bookends"!
