I noticed this changed about a month ago and assumed it was a blip but have just tried again and it’s the same.

For the first 2 years of ownership I could stick the car in Transport mode and set any end time I wanted. I travel on ferries a lot so use it often.

Now when I go to set it, I only get one time option which is 11hrs ahead, and even if I select that the Transport mode doesn’t arm.

As a workaround I’ve been leaving the tracker fob in the car in the dash while it’s on the ferry but this won’t work when I use the channel tunnel.

Anyone else finding this or does it need a call to PVTS?

Answered my own question - it ends on 15th June so I won’t renew. Will just need to check with insurers what difference that makes to the premium

Anytime I used it – also use ferries a lot – I could only set a maximum time of 10 hours in the future. Any longer and I needed to ring the Vodafone call centre. They were always very helpful and obliging.

Not sure why there is this 10 hour restriction via the app – but its been that way for me for last 5+ years.

My insurance absolutely requires the service. What they call "monitored tracking service with automatic driver recognition".

Which insurer? Admiral used to and now don't.

CHUBB here in Ireland; which is one of the few insurers that cover cars valued in excess of €200,000. Ireland being a much, much smaller market for these kinds of vehicles compared to the UK.

https://www.chubb.com/ie-en/individuals-families/products/motor.html

Here are the specific terms/changes to their standard policy. They confirmed in writing to me that PVTS+ service meets these obligations.

The clause that says the tracking service must be in full working order was a new addition for this renewal. Previously, it just said that an active subscription must be in place at the time of a theft claim.

I wasn't delighted with that change given the potential for "gremlins" in Porsche's overall communications reliability – but my broker was of the written view that once car is serviced, that I am not aware of any issue and the subscription is active – I would be covered.

Ireland is likely a special case not least for the over inflated price of the car due to taxation.

Admiral now also advise the value of the car at time of renewal which is an eye opener in itself. My last renewal for the Taycan set the value of my then 2 year old car at £81K (£123K new). The listing of factory options is also not required now.

EV values plummet as you know and so there is a high risk of people over insuring and therefore being more out of pocket.

Isn't the alternative to deactivate the interior surveillance during ferry trips which will also deactivates all the alarm triggers whilst the car is locked? Appreciate there will be no alarm.

That won't stop PVTS+ triggering a "transport" alarm – which is when it detects the car moving without it being switched on. But on a ferry you do still need to deactivate the interior alarm as that also disables the tilt sensor, thus preventing an alarm trigger if its a rough crossing.

But PVTS+ will trigger a remote transport alarm even without triggering a local siren alarm on the car itself.

Usually by the time it gets out to sea it will be out of GSM coverage, but I've had it trigger once leaving Holyhead as the ship pulled out of port when I forgot to disable it.

I think it deactivates all alarms including the tilt sensor.

Perhaps it's a key trick also.

Same on 992.2 and I can't check the Taycan now.

worth noting that PTVS is auto-renew - I was still debating whether to cancel (and pay the extra Admiral wanted for insurance) or renew and I've had an email from Porsche this morning thanking me for my order for another year

I'm with Admiral and a tracker wasn't a requirement. Same story on my 911 and so I've gladly ditched the fobs.

Same for me - Admiral didn't ask for a tracker, and I don't believe there was a difference in premium if I said I'd got one.

I opted to cancel the renewal saving about £196 I think it was, told Admiral and it increased the premium by £14.

I decided frankly if someone steals the car what good is it having Vodafone help me watch it drive away, I'd rather not know. Similarly the stress of trying to get the damn thing to activate transport mode every time I board a ferry (which is multiple times a month) will be gone.
