Any tips for used Taycan shopping (<80k)?

I recently test drove a used 2020 4s and I believe it had the PDCC, PVT/LSD, rear wheel steering, and wow was I impressed with it both from a comfort and dynamics perspective.

Now I want one.

The real question is do I need all of these options to get that fizz?

I’ve had a bmw i3 and a tesla model 3, and I already have an L2 charger in my garage and free L2 chargers at work so even 180mi of range is fine.

I do feel like I want at least 2 years of warranty wich mean either a cpo or what a 2023/4 model?

2020 will run the cheapest, and you won't miss anything

There is virtually no difference between 2020 and a 2024. 2021+ have a revised battery chemistry, but without any actual benefits, just a "refresh" from LG chem.

Software wise, all Porsche's are shit, but 2021+ offers some extra button in the app for locking/unlocking/horn. Hardly useful, as connection is horrible and it often lags out.

2021+ also offers plug and play charging, as in it can start the charging process by itself after you plug in the cord - but it's buggy, and slow - often more reliable and faster to do it manually, on the charger itself.

2020 is the only production year that has 10 piston front brakes; as they went down to 6 pistons for 2021+.

You do not need all those options to like the car; but on a 2020, would be a pity not to get one kitted out, as they deprecated like crazy, so those options would be essentially free.

For the facelift, 2025+, the big battery is a must and active ride is the only option that is unlike any other car.

If I were buying used, I would try and get one that had been personally owned and not leased.

I've seen posts on here where people who lease are less kind on the battery (charging to 100% etc) as they know they will just be giving it back, so have no incentive to baby it.

Wheras people who own the car (as I did) have more of a vested interest in it's longer term 'wellbeing'.

I am considering a base model. It looks like air suspension is optional and you can't get PDCC, but you can get rear wheel steer and the LSD. I've always hear that the steering is better on non-AWD cars so that would be a plus. Any reason you can't track the base model? I mean it's not like it's real competition, so sure more power is always fun, but is it missing cooling or something that would truly compromise the car?

Really appreciate the advice the " Issues, Warranty, Recalls, TSBs" is filled with what looks like the typical online problems. Every car has lemons, and some owners are never happy. It does sound like the software is flakey (I'm a software developer, so I have some patience for that), but that over time it's better than it was. I'm hoping that as long as I have a CPO that recalls and warranty issues will be resolvable. Nothing is perfect, but as long as it's covered I'm pretty chill about problems.

Got mine from BCA (British car auctions). 2021 taycan base with bigger battery £26k worth of extras. I paid £31k inc auction fees. Mileage 85K (alot higher than most).

Its risky but worth it. They have new models every week. Turbo S from £50K.

If you want peace of mind buy used from porsche it will be £10-15K more than auction but with warranty atleast.

The base model has less horsepower but plenty of power for normal driving and I really enjoy the rear wheel drive and steering in the base model. As far as taking it to the track goes no problem, but you will be up against cars with crazy horsepower.

I’m in the US, but I have alerts for a couple of our online auction sites. With enough of a discount it’ll be a risk, but it’ll probably work out even with a couple 2k repair bills if I save over 10k at purchase.

I have no method to check options. the auction company listed them and all were correct. once i set up my porsche app they showed in there too.

If you view enough taycans for sale some extras are visible i.e 14 way seats. passenger screen. panormaic roof. sports chrono pack (little clock and dial on wheel)

Go for a test drive with local dealers and look for the extras that you want for defo and keep browsing auctions till the perfect one comes.

I bought my last car (cayenne) from auction and didnt let me down.
