Going from 21" wheels/tire sizing to 20" wheels/tires

Hi,

I have a 2025 CT 4 with the 21" option (Front: 265/35 R21, Rear:305/30 R21). If I go to the 20" option sizing (Front: 245/45 R20, Rear 285/40 R20) for a winter set, will I have any issues? The tire size calc says 1.34% and 2.74% diameter, front and rear, respectively.

If the wheel offsets are a little different since the 20" wheels aren't Porsche, does that matter? OEM is 54 & 60 (front/rear) and these wheels are 50 & 55mm.

That is exactly my setup. No problem just a lot more comfort from the softer wither tyres .
The offset change itself isn’t a problem with 50 and 55mm. Winter tyres are smaller in size.
If you are buying wheels from j1.1 you’ll have to change pressure sensors… they are not the same between Jen 1.1 and Jen 1.2.

Have both 21 and 20 sets on my 2021 4s. Range is better on 20s and they are quiter, comfier and less prone to bump damage. 21s win on looks though

I’m still debating with myself on 20” vs 21” rims… it’s a tough choice to make. I love the look of 21” but also read up on the cons of them. Thanks for the input !

truth be told, the looks of the 21s can't be beaten; I'm running 6 months on the 20s and 6 months on the 21s per year. My conclusion is that if you use the taycan as a daily, better stick with 20s (better range, comfort, less prone to bump damage, less noise); if you mainly use the taycan as a weekender or track the car, get the 21s.

I went 20" for winter and in April went to 19" for everything else. (Selling my 21" rims.) I am Denver based and a skiier and iltake her soft roading now and then. (Currently in Vegas but will be going back through S. utah Tomo.)Haven't done the math yet but can tell the 19" are rims help significantly with range. I find I can do about 4hrs of highway driving with range mode. 2021 4 Cross tourismo...daily driver.

At 19" I have a lot more tire options, which made me feel better if I get a flat our here in the middle of nowhere!

I run 21s in the warmer months and have a set of 20s for the winter. I really like the way the car rides better on the 20s rims, and on top of that have had 3 flats on my 21s from potholes and nails and stuff. Would totally be interested in 19”s but I don’t think I can with the GTS trim. I do think the handling is tiny bit sharper on the 21’s but am even considering selling my 21 RS Spyers and just getting a set of summer 20s.

Haven't ever tried 19s, but they must be even comfier than 20s. How much difference I can't tell though. as per the Porsche website, difference in range is small between 19 and 20 though, plus you can get A efficiency rated tyres on the 20s (eg hankook ion evo, available in 20 and 21 size with exact taycan spec, though not NF0) that will be very close to the 19s range. 20s seem like a nice option taking all facts into consideration (looks, range, comfort, noise).

Thanks, I didn’t know about the TPMS either. Maybe not worth it for since the tires are already mounted so there’s added cost in buying the set.

21" Spyder look the best and ideal if your roads are largely smooth and pothole free.
20" ride way better - comfort, noise, dealing with crap roads.
If you swap, don't forget to change the wheel size in the PMS - this corrects the speed and tyre pressure calculations..

Fun fact: my oem 21s are like 3% off, even when correctly chosen through the Pms. My 20s are spot on (again, when correctly chosen through the pms). guess I'll need to have dealership do a correction on my next maintenance appointment

My RS Spider stock GTS 21's give me a 3-5% error rate on my speedo - 104-5 km/h =-109 km/h 100 via GPS, and 125 gets me 120 GPS speed - these are the wheels and tires the car came with... it's not that the Porsche is fast, its PRETENDING to go faster than it really is... This is also true with my wife's Audis, same error rate. My Mercedes was bang on, and my NSX I just looked at the RPM and listened, you don't care about the speedo in that car!

The sound that drives me nuts is the same sound that any car has when your car goes over a bump or an extra wide/deep expansion joint, the sound is a "thud", but compared to other vehicles I currently own, or have owned, the Taycan is more pronounced (meaning it is louder) and I think it is more noticeable because the Taycan is otherwise pretty quiet. So, I am also interested in:
1) What might be the quietest, most able to cushion impacts, tire, I should consider
2) What is the best looking 20" wheel for a Taycan

Did you buy Porsche Tire and Wheel Protection? If so, that might reduce your choices.

The smaller and narrower the wheel, matched with the higher aspect ratio, the quieter and softer the ride. I'd probably look aftermarket for both the wheel and tire... there is a thread on a wheel that looks better (to me) than the modern mission e wheels (more like the original concept)... perhaps they have those in whatever size you want: https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/rotiform-rca-22-installed.38205/

In Colorado I assume you have to have winter and summer tires, though you mentioned the ProContact RX tires which shouldn't work well in snow.

If you want the best performance summer tire and assuming you are getting the standard 20" wheel size for Taycans, the Pirelli PZ5 seems to be the best (followed by the Continental Sport Contact 7 and Michelin PS4):
