Hello everyone,

I've always had ICE performance vehicles as dailies for the last 20 years but nothing too extreme and nothing as special as a Porsche. Most of them have been either VWAG or BMW/MINI products, often mildly tuned and some of those were even making 500+ bhp so you could probably call them fast (very relative term in recent years were horsepower seems to be made by anyone and everything so easily). Fast forward to today and I seem to have lost interest in the latest models (combination of too many regulations being enforced plus designs that are trying too hard) as well as the traditional ICE ownership (I'm fed up with 500 eur services for oil and filter changes which despite being able to work on my cars when needed, is often necessary for preserving warranty. Fuel costs and general up-keeping and preventative maintenance on an ICE performance car is also a head-ache). So far EVs were not of interest to me as I could not see any actual driver's car in the sub 60K EUR price range despite a few of them making the numbers (performance and low ownership cost). But here we are and I suddenly find Taycans in that exact range.

In my mind, the appeal of this car is: a) gorgeous and classy looks b) true sporty driving experience c) low running cost (22kw charger available). We already have another EV at home (non-performance oriented) and it's doing its thing just fine. So I think I want to take a break from ICE but I want to do it in a "worthy" EV otherwise I don't think it would be fair and it will not work long term when compared to previous cars I've owned. I want to enjoy my car for myself and I like to keep a low profile, not waking up the neighbourhood or turning heads due to exhaust noises or overly aggressive looks which are almost a given in most performance ICE vehicles.

What I'm wondering is:
a) Can MY21 be bought with relative peace of mind or an on-going warranty is an absolut must - I've read about the early issues but I'm thinking in 2026 even those early cars must have been sorted?
b) How liveable is the car for a daily commute of 50km in and out the city plus the occasional 600km family trip a few times a year, we don't require big amounts of luggage or cabin space as a family
c) Am I changing the expensive (but known) type of ICE maintenance (gearboxes, transfer cases, pumps, belts etc.) of a 5-8year old performance car with even more expensive and potentially tricker issues of an expensive EV like the Taycan?

I'm so excited about the prospect of getting in a Taycan as it ticks all my boxes on paper but my lack of experience is keeping me from making a move at the moment.

All opinions appreciated!

Do a forum search of "extended warranty" with 'search titles only' checked.

Hi there,
I owned normal ICE cars for 20Y+ then in 2025 I had an Xpeng G9 Performance (550hp), perfect for comfort and family (nothing sporty) but it's just me & my son so when I left my ex-company I wanted only an EV, sporty, and absolutely not a Musk-car, so the Taycan came pretty easily as the only model that ticked all boxes.
I got my MY20 Turbo the day before Christmas, very bad winter so I was annoyed with the low range (~300km), in Feb I had 1 electrical issue which was handled perfectly by Porsche (CPO warranty until Dec'2028) and uncovered 3 bad modules which were replaced.
6 months later I'm very happy of the experience, it drives beautifully, I made end of June a 2000km roundtrip south of France with ~66% highway at 130/140kmh with an average 20kwh/100km, with an SoH of 91% (ie 86kwh left usable) - in Range mode on highway, in Normal the rest of the time, with 21" wheels.
To cut it short : there's no better deal for that kind of car :)

That's what it looks like after my own car research. Proper driver-focused and EV is a tough combo and very very few choices seem to be available at least around the 60K eur mark. I do plenty of miles and need something practical that can also make my commute special, I can't afford waiting for the weekend to drive a 2-seater or similar, in fact I don't drive much during weekends.

What surprised me is that these faults of a 2020 car were not already addressed in 2025 and waited for your ownership...

Another thing is I am not used to owning Porsches and truth be told most people have a certain image/perspective in their minds of the people who drive them, I wonder if others have felt this hesitation? when they went for their first car from Stuttgart...

Thanks to this forum I knew what to look at and look for, I had the Porsche CPO re-update PCM to the maximum version (v3885), which activated correctly the Android Auto (wasn't working before).
Then the electric issue isn't a defect that existed in 2020 (I'd be very surprised).
They handled it correctly, gave me 2 Audi rentals, then a 2 weeks J1.2 4S to my request, with always a good service, nothing to complain about.
It's not a 100% problem-free car, but in my opinion you can't assume that from any car, and since I was well prepared by this forum, I cruised through that issue like a charm :)
