It does light up. The brightness is also controllable in the PCM. I found it much easier to see the hands when the brightness is set to max (it isn’t by default). This might solve some people’s concerns about not being able to see the hands in the dark.

I would say the SD card in your dashcam has failed. I also get that PCM message pretty much every time I turn the car off. Minorly annoying, just thought it was normal and I ignore it. It’s happened since the car was new. Not sure if that’s indicative of an issue.
