Latest episode update: Tom Voelk series on his pre-owned Taycan

Tom Voelk has just uploaded part 8 in his series on buying and owning a used Taycan: "13 months in: winter driving, rebalancing, depreciation, etc." I always enjoy his calm style and nice to see a more balanced view from an actual owner who loves the Taycan :) Here are the previous episodes...

Paint chipping/flaking on all 4 wheel centre caps

To remove recent center caps, you need a special Porsche tool. However, these suction cups worked well for me to get them out without damaging the edges:

    Install Porsche design sub-second clock

Ah, a little over the top perhaps :) ... but I happened upon a nice pre-owned Porsche design subsecond 42mm watch that exactly matches the clock in the car, and I could not resist  (The watch is nice and well-made, but I personally wouldn't pay new price for it)

    Install Porsche design sub-second clock

I looked today, the part number is 9J1 919 204 (6N3) -- this is the Porsche Design "Clock Black".

2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo - Isn't this a Good Deal

Looks like a good deal (well, depending on how high the bidding goes :) ). However... there are quite a few Taycan's for sale and all of them are a relatively good deal with the high depreciation :). As such, I would be very hesitant to buy from another state, sight unseen. IMHO, it is safer to...

My first "mod" -- Cupholder Mounted Wireless Charger with MagSafe for Apple iPhone

Maybe even nicer is a direct usb-C/A charger outlet like this : This one has 24W charge power which is enough for the magsafe which needs 18W (while the built-in Taycan USB-C ports only supply 12W :-( ).

$100 says my 2021 has more range than yours

Wow, that is 390mi at 100% ?? Is that even possible on a Taycan? o_O Is this on a J1.2 with 19" aero wheels? I am quite happy with my Taycan but I get about 230mi at 100% 🙃 (2020 Turbo S with mission-E wheels)

My first "mod" -- Cupholder Mounted Wireless Charger with MagSafe for Apple iPhone

Thanks! Yes, I saw that you can easily access the wiring to the 12V socket and USB ports to the armrest... but I would be too scared to touch that -- I am not skilled enough to know what wires to use :) Also a bit risky for the warranty perhaps? But I agree it would be nice to get rid of the...

My first "mod" -- Cupholder Mounted Wireless Charger with MagSafe for Apple iPhone

Continuing on the previous post above, I went ahead and did the ultimate install with a usb-c port inside the front cupholder: With that you can easily install or remove the nine-volt magsafe and still use your cupholder if you want: Now, I do not recommend doing this mod -- you could...

Charging doesn't stop to the 80% limit set.

Just to clarify, my post works for any (home) charger. Also, EVSE = home charger, so I am sure you have one :-) (I guess you meant that your charger cannot set time schedules)

Charging doesn't stop to the 80% limit set.

This^ For future readers, the easiest way to charge to 80% max is to: 1. Have no timer set 2. Set the general profile to 80÷ "minimum" charge, location independent, and use the option optimised charging. This will charge up to 80% max, starting when you plug in. It will still charge to...

Hi Tom, @262X40, just wanted to say I really enjoyed your series on getting the used Taycan -- and great you are active at this forum too, thanks! :) Your calm "journalistic" and realistic reviews are really nice among all the hype and noise on YouTube :)

    Install Porsche design sub-second clock

Ah, I'm traveling now. but according to the link to suncoastparts above the SKU is 9J1PDSCFACE -- not sure if that was on the box too though 😅

    Install Porsche design sub-second clock

No programming is needed -- I think the clock just reads the time from the bus and that's it. It also seems to sync automatically. I was a bit worried as the hands on my clock were at the 2 a clock position and I worried it might be out of sync , but everything works fine and the hands go back...

Taycan tuned: 950 hp through software tuning

As a proud J1.1 Turbo S owner I need to object 😅 : https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a30688949/2020-porsche-taycan-turbo-s-testing-acceleration-zero-to-60/ "The 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S achieved a 2.4-second zero-to-60-mph time in Car and Driver testing" Just in good spirit -- I always...
