I encountered ‘Battery Initializing’ during a home charging session at 26% (66 miles). Is this a new message, or does the battery initialize for every charging session? It took about 15 minutes (12:02 - 11:47) before charging began. This is not an issue, but an observation. See the attachments.

Prior events:
  • Trip 1: Start: Charge to 85%, End 26%: The Taycan was not driven for 2 days.
  • Trip 2:
    • Start: 3-day charge from 26% to 90% (Optimized Battery Set: Electrify America – 160 kW peak).
    • End of Trip 2: The home charge started, and the Battery Initializing message appeared in the app. The car screen also showed 26% (I missed taking the photo).

I have it sometimes too that initializing takes very long (record was still initializing next morning… just gave it a restart at that point). Never timed it though

Thanks! I figured other Taycan owners must have experienced this.

Hey there. For the past year my charger (22kW) would not work with Porsche schedule or pause and resume with my utility's scheduling. It would get stuck in "Initialising" and never actually start charging the car. Last month the charger died completely and was replaced with the 11kW model.

What you could try to check if it behaves properly is:

Set a schedule in your wallbox charger, starting some minutes after you plug and lock your car
Check if the Initialising message disappears and charging starts at the previously set time
If yes, all is well
If not, your onboard A/C charger is faulty

You will find other topics with the same issue, like https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/charging-issue-on-timer-profile-initializing.29147/page-2

Battery initializing was the first time I’ve seen this event while charging at home. I’ll try your suggestion if the same battery initializing happens again. I’m using a ChargePoint hardwired charger at home, not the Porsche 11kW charger.

Upon reviewing the charging session from the ChargePoint, I now see KW supplied to the Taycan was consistent for the initial 15 minutes. 11:41pm +. There is no issue here.

The battery initializing message should have been cleared (in the app and PCM screen) when the Taycan is sourcing the KW requested.

See attachment.

Mourloz was speaking about the 11kW or 22kW AC-to-DC charger, which is part of the car. The ChargePoint box on your wall is called the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) - basically a fancy extension cord. As far as your initializing issue, yes even with my dumb EVSE I have seen that once in a while.

Thanks for the clarification!
