This type of comment is quite familiar throughout the world with people who drive what is regarded as a luxury sports car. How do you know that other drivers are jealous of you, how do you know what they are thinking. They may be waiting for you to 'get a move on' and when the time is right, pass you briskly. Look inward and be honest about your own driving. You may drive at the maximum speed, but how long does it take you to get there? There is no doubt that most of these comments are in the Taycan driver's head and a lot are far removed from reality. Self conscious, or what?
I didn’t go as far as to guess the motivation, and it could just be coincidence or me being more self conscious with the new car.

Honestly one of the things that kept me from buying a Porsche was the “image” so I’m a bit self conscious at the moment. I don’t have to guess what people are thinking because friends tell me straight up when I mention the new car. 😂

That said, there are also times you don’t really have to guess what theyre thinking when you drive an EV when….

They try to drag race you.
When a diesel truck coal rolls you.
When they key or set your Tesla on 🔥

Anybody that tries to drag race me, goes shooting ahead and I drive sedately up to the next red light where they have been waiting and gently stop alongside them. They may notice the smirk on my face, but I never look at them. ;)

I don't know what 'coal rolling' means but sounds dirty work.:)

Tesla's, those are the cars with ill fitting doors and have a reputation for poor manufacturing aren't they?

I’ve only been driving the Taycan a few weeks now and notice a significant difference in how other drivers drive around me.

Short description- more aggressively.

My last car was a Mustang Mach E GTPE. People mostly ignored it.

But now I notice I’m getting passed aggressively, tailgated, and cut off way more frequently. And I’m not driving any differently.

Does Porsche just get a reaction out of people? What’s are your thoughts?
I have noticed different driving behaviors over the years depending on which vehicle I’m driving.
When I drive my Hummer I don’t get much tailgating or challenges at stop lights but I do find drivers tend to avoid me the smaller their cars are. When we had a Honda Accord I felt almost invisible to other drivers. With my Airstream Mercedes Sprinter van RV everyone gives me wide berth except the clueless that cut off tractor trailers not realizing their own stupidity will eventually get them killed.
As for my Taycan, I find people letting me in because they are admiring the looks of my Taycan which is actually what I used to do before I bought mine. I still actually do this for other beautiful sports cars.
I do also get the occasional Dodge Charger or other muscle cars which try to challenge me in traffic but their throttle response is no match for the instant power of a Taycan. I pass them at speed in the second or two it takes for their massive motor to begin responding to their depressing of their gas pedal. It’s actually quite funny to leave these people in the dust when you go from 55 to 85 in a second or so before they can pick up their jaw.
I’ve had muscle cars in my youth and none come close to the immediate acceleration of an EV. (Almost any EV for that matter) Even when you light up the tires in a muscle car it’s a cool effect but compared to an EV with very balanced weight over the drive wheels blows away a RWD muscle car which has no weight over the rear wheels and all the weight from the huge motor over the front wheels which translates to wheels spinning a second or two before the vehicle moves an inch.
It’s quite satisfying once you become accustomed to typical EV acceleration.
I can’t even imagine what I would do with the Taycan Turbo… accept get tickets… My base Taycan is fast but the turbo is crazy fast off the line acceleration at highway speeds.
I couldn’t be trusted with that kind of instant power when I was younger and now, in my 60s it would just be wasted on me.

I have owned Porsches since 1980, in several different states. I noticed it immediately and it seems to get worse as time goes on, usually Suburus, Mitsobishis, BMW and usually younger drivers. I typically ignore them - seems like they don't have a lot to lose if something goes wrong.

In the UK it’s Audi’s that seem to have the worst reputation for bad drivers. Years ago, Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear coined a phrase for aggressive tailgating - “the full Audi”. It seems to live on, not least because it is still very true.

Coal rolling is for sure a US thing.

It’s when a large diesel pickup with a tune cuts past you flooring it. Literally smokes out the whole street.

Even AI knows it’s on purpose. 🤣

AI Overview

"Rolling coal" is the practice of modifying a diesel engine to intentionally spew thick, black clouds of soot-filled exhaust, often to target cyclists, hybrid cars, or environmentalists as a form of anti-environmental protest or nuisance.

In my boat definitely the opposite. People give us a lot of space. But, I think because we still have temp tags on it, I feel like the assumption is "I don't want to get in an accident with someone who a. just bought a car or B. may create a super complicated insurance fiasco." We'll see if it stays the same when our actual plates come in.

It’s a thing. The mustangs, the vettes, the bmw Ms, most of them like revving the engine like a flex when I’m close by.

There are always some who are threatened by our great cars and feel they need to show off their smallness by sometimes even challenging our cars. As one who also comes from decades of super fun Corvette ownership, many Mustangs and Challengers/Chargers would come next to me and give the “let’s drag” race sign. I always ignore such pretty minds with their insecurities.

Wow that’s a lot of aggression you’ve got pinned up there.

I think people race because it’s fun. Not due to some insecurity or napoleon complex.

The racing doesn’t bother me one bit. I appreciate any fast car. It’s the tailgating, coal rolling or cutting me off that I don’t appreciate.

I do no participate on anything relating trying to outdo anyone using HP on the street, saving my racing for only race tracks. I do love my racing on circuits of different kinds.

You are correct that my use of the word “insecuities” above was exaggerated and inappropriate.

In my opinion however, 100% of all street contests Is also inappropriate — and unsafe.

What a very strange post.....

Threatened, insecure people showing off their smallness by daring to challenge you in your great Macan.

I hope you tell them to their face every chance you get.

I have the opposite experience. I normally drive in the fast lane and I feel other drivers will move out of my lane and let me pass when I'm driving a Taycan. Not all the time, maybe once or twice a week.
I have a similar experience. Most cars move out of the way when they notice me behind them.
