Hard Downshift Coming to Stop

I have '22 RWD with 23K miles. Recently I have experienced hard downshifts coming to a stop in normal range. It's not every time, infact rare, but concerned it might be the start of something big. Has anyone experienced this problem where it developed into a motor/transmission replacement?

Someone mentioned that the noticeablity of the downshift varies car by car. I often notice mine downshift when slowing down but I wouldn't describe it as 'hard' ... in fact I'm not sure what 'hard' means in this context.

I drove a 2022 RWD loaner awhile back, brand new, and noticed this as well when coming to a rapid stop going down the ramp, clearly transmission going from one gear to another. My thought was that it is expected. I would do several rapid stops going downhill and see if that is repeatable. I do not experience this in my 2023 Turbo.

Can’t say for sure, but seems like it’s a feature, not a bug… it’s happened for me occasionally for the 3 years I have been driving the car.

Yes. My entire drive unit was replaced at ~800 miles on my '21 RWD. First gear noise/issue. The problem came back a short time after. Car has since been sold.

The two recent experiences have been when doing a fairly rapid stop. Early on it did it on a long coasting stop. Thanks for the reply.
