Is there some trick to get Octopus to talk to the charger rather than the car? I collected my Taycan yesterday and am trying to set up IOG but when stepping through the setup in the app it seems to only want to connect to the car.

I don't want it charging to 100% with the 'timer bug' (or should I say intended behaviour...) so would rather they control my charger instead.

I think you have to give Octopus a call and they will change this for you. I know that they will defo do this for Hypervolt and Ohme but not sure about other brands. It’s worth it as previously Octopus said my wife’s Range Rover wasn’t compatible but once my Hypervolt was assigned to my account rather than the Porsche I can charge her car too at the cheap rate. 😊

Cheers Morph, I got a Hypervolt 3 put in because I'd read it worked well with IOG! Hopefully they'll be ok with it.

As an aside I'm really impressed with the Taycan so far.

I’ve been on OI go for a couple of years and had a Hypervolt home pro 3 installed in April when I bought my Taycan. As you get cheap electricity for the whole home when your car charges, I try to only charge at peak rate times but letting the octopus app schedule it so it’s always off peak. As soon as I plug my Taycan in, Octopus creates a schedule and it starts charging immediately at off peak rates. I try not to charge my Taycan between 11.30 to 5.30 as I get off peak rates then anyway. Hope that mates sense.

Hi All, first time post-er, long time reader (took my car ages to arrive haha).

So, I have a Taycan 4S 2026 edition and an Andersen A2 set up with Octopus on their IOG tariff.

Got to admit, so far so good. Every time over the past week that I have used it to add charge it has worked perfectly.

At first, I couldn’t set it up directly with Octopus as apparently my A2 needed a firmware update. A quick call to Andersen to get them to send new firmware to my A2 and restarting the whole set up process with Octopus then worked perfectly.

I only set the maximum charge I want in the Porsche app and Octopus handles the rest.

I have no timers or schedules in the car or via Andersen set up…

Add the EVSE via the Octopus App
I believe you can't do that any more. A friend told me they're trying to crack down on people gaming the tariff so they've changed it to only allow you to configure the app to connect to the car, unless you call them and explain why you can't do it that way so they need to control the charger instead...

I certainly can't find a way to get the app to let me set up the API connection to the charger and not the car (I've even tried telling them I have an EV that's not on their list, then picking my Hypervolt charger...).

I'll have to contact them tomorrow.

I had issues when I used the OIG app to set the charge.
Instead this works for me every time:
- IOG controls my HyperVolt.
- IOG is set to charge to 100%.
- Taycan J1.2 is set to charge to whatever I need. Usually 75%.
- I plug it in and it does it's smart charge when it needs to, and stops when the car gets to the set charge amount.
- No timers or schedules used.

This process also works for a Kia EV9 ( which isn't supported by Octopus) and also worked for my J1.1.

Thanks, this is exactly what I am trying to achieve. Hopefully Octopus can be accommodating tomorrow.

I managed to get this all set up as above today and the Octopus app has created a charge schedule for me overnight. Exciting stuff. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Yes, this setup seems to be the solution for IOG + Andersen A2 if you want to avoid the risk of being downgraded from their 7p to 8p tariff. You did arrive at the solution rather swiftly compared to some of us. (I now trust this setup at the 90% level.)

Think that’s more by luck and reading all the insightful stuff on here - so big thanks to you all… 🙌🫶

All seems, or seemed, to be working well with my setup with Octopus controlling my Hypervolt. However.

Last night around 10pm I asked the octopus app to add 10% to the car because I had a longer journey in it this morning. But they didn’t schedule a charge overnight, which was a bit annoying.

Do you need to unplug and plug back in for Octopus to schedule a new charge? Do they even have that visibility through the charger API?

The sequence of events was:

2 days ago:
Car has charge limit set to 80%
Plug car in with like 65%, ask octopus to add 80%
Car stopped charging when it got to 80%

24hrs pass, car stays plugged in

Last night:
Change car’s charge limit to 85%
Ask octopus to add 10%

Nothing happened
