I have long complained about the poor ergonomics and distraction of touch screen controlled functions, as have many others.
Research has shown using a touch screen in a car is distracting and accident rates are going up since the minimum in 2010 so included in the safety score of cars in future will be how distracting, ie how long the driver’s eyes are off the road, are operating its controls.
It has always struck me as bizarre that it is illegal here to even touch a phone whilst driving whilst cars are fitted with monster tablets with key controls on.
It is the cheapest solution but it will be good to have cockpit ergonomic shortcomings highlighted in safety scores IMO.
