Just curious as I never noticed until I bought my car. Is a slight hum normal when the vehicle is on, even while parked?

I’m used to Teslas, which are completely silent while “on” (until they start moving when rattles and wind noise take over).

Outside or inside? For me inside only the airco makes a sound when standing still

There are lots of noises when the vehicle is changing state with relays and solenoids and little motor noises and such (off-to-on, starting to charge, on-to-off, stopping charging, etc.). When the battery is too hot, the outside fans in the front wheel wells will kick on and can be heard (normal) or can be very loud (debris is present). My HVAC doesn't really hum. But it is audible. Maybe say what are the conditions when this happens. And yes, inside or outside?

Inside while just sitting. HVAC is off. Will check to see if it happens right after turning it on. I definitely notice when I get home from driving….possibly battery cooling, but I’ll check. It is inside, and consistent….not something going on or off for the minute or two I’m sitting in the garage parked. I believe I’ve also noticed it while driving. Just a constant sound, as if a fan were on. Which I thought, until making sure hvac was off. I assumed as an EV this would be dead silent like the Tesla, which is why I noticed it. I will investigate further

All European and American EVs, including Teslas make some kind of artificial pedestrian warning sound when moving. I believe American specced cars are also required to make a noise even while standing still in drive mode, which is probably what you're hearing. That said, I'm not really familiar with Canadian laws, so maybe it's not required there, but Porsche uses the same spec for both Canada and the US.

Here's how an American Tesla sounds like:

Here's how a European Taycan sounds like:

what I mean is, when the vehicle is on, I can tell. Sitting inside, I can hear a faint buzz/humm sound. It stops when the vehicle is switched off, and begins when turned on. So my question to you all is, are your vehicles completely silent when switched on….like absolutely no sound (after the initial chimes etc).

I don’t notice anything like you’re describing with my car. I’ll pay more attention when I get in it tomorrow.

What I believe your hearing is when you put the car into drive or neutral there is a loud audible noise that you will hear inside and out. This is regardless of electric sport sound being on or off.

For reference, I can hear the noise (don't have the ESS) when stationary

What year Taycan? Where is it coming from? There were some Taycans with faulty bottom center console screen fans (the fans were not faulty, but they were installed incorrectly with wires occasionally touching the fan, making faint noise).

Perhaps record the noise and share.

As for rattles, they take longer than Tesla, but they also come. Mine started about 10 months in, now at 14 months there are multiple rattles I haven't had time to track down to try to fix.

It is a 2023. It’s been lousy weather this week so she’s been in the garage while I putter around in my Prius  hopefully this weekend I can do a deep dive. But I ask again…..WhiteX you’ve had Teslas….are your Taycans completely silent when parked? Not trying to compare Tesla vs Taycan….just using for comparisons sake. If the noise is normal, fine. But now I can’t unhear it

When I turned on my car this morning I listened for noises. What I distinctly heard was the sound of a pump turning on (I assume the pump that circulates the coolant to wherever it is needed in the vehicle). I believe this is normal and should always happen since the Taycan is very active in trying to control the temperature of the battery. It was also cool out this morning (42F) so I assume the car wanted to warm the battery to a better operating temperature. Might this be the noise you are hearing?

I think I can relate to this. I get what I think you are describing in my car, although it is not all of the time. It almost feels like a slight vibration with a hum, but I have just put it down to being normal. It goes on and off if I am sitting in the car statioary for any length of time with the car on and in park. Not something I am concerned about. It might just be the pump running as mentioned by @Hirschaj. Hopefully nothing wrong though.

Ok so finally had some sunshine here and went for a drive. Car is silent on start up. I hadn’t realized the sound I’m hearing is usually present after driving and I guess I always notice when returning home sitting in my garage parked. I’m guessing it must be some sort of fan or cooling mechanism. Funny though, it stops when I turn the car off, and isn’t there if I power up again right away. Oh well. All is good :giggle:
