Because they can. And people buy it.
And………. G forces are a standard metric for lateral acceleration (handling) compared with every vehicle.

The peak G from a roll question I’m asking will tell you how fast the car feels. It’s also an easy test to find out where our cars peak torque is (fun fact).


Could ask the same question for peak braking G forces.

For the average driver in a non race enviroment, I think G-force measurement is actually more useful. It'll tell you how the car feels during acceleration, and isn't that what we're after? Let's face it, 99% of drivers will never take their car on the track, but many will mash the GO pedal looking for the feeling of being pushed back against the seat.

acceleration can never be greater than 1g…physics.
Of course it can...simple math.

Koenigsegg Gemera:
0-100km/h (0-27,8m/s) in 2.0 seconds.
Vt=Vo+at
27,8=0+a*2.0
a=13,9 m/s² which is 1,39G.

Rimac Nevera: (0-100 in 1,8 s): 1,54G.
Top fuel dragster (330 mph in 3,7s): 3,98G.
Taycan Turbo S (0-100 in 2,8s): 0,99G.

Note: these are average acceleration numbers cuz acceleration in the beginning is slightly higher due to difference in resistance/powerband.

Car acceleration can never be greater than 1g if if you have a 100% non-sticky rubber (cannot stick or adhere to the road at all) and the road is a perfectly smooth, mirror like surface (not even microscopic imperfections that the tire rubber could potentially grab onto) …physics.
There, I fixed it for you. :)

Using read tires on real roads, yes you can accelerate faster than 1g. Stock Dodge Challeneger Demon can do 1.8g off the line at a drag strip. Dragsters can do 5g (some dragster tires advertise 5g acceleration limit).

Tested the RWD PB+ today.

From a stop:
.55g
Launch Control .60g

From 30mph: .55g
From 50mph .47g
from 70mph .30g

Almost hit 1G again when transmission slammed into 2nd gear around 60 MPH.

My SoC was only around 70% which is why the 60-130 wasn't optimal.

Curious what your readings in your turbo S are not using launch control and starting from a roll….. 30 mph and again at 50 mph.

My theory is that my tuned 4S will likely be as fast or faster. Looking at your dragy, your launch is significantly quicker though.

Just as a follow up, I did eventually take my car to the drag strip and it ran a 10.9 at 128-129 mph. Which is what a stock J1.1 turbo (non S) will run.

So I’m guessing when you take launch control out of the equation, even a turbo S should be about the same, if not slightly slower.

I'm running the MapEV tune, so I'm more or less in launch mode all the time (790 hp and 775 ft-lbs).

Assuming your 4S has the performance battery, you should be around (720 hp and 487 ft-lb), at least that's what the MapEV website is showing. So yeah, if I didn't have a tune, I think you would take me.

My dragy run above was with a SoC of 70% on a 60F morning on cold tires on a regular road. So far from ideal. I'm hoping to be able to get down to 10.3 in the quarter at around 133 mph with a 60-130 around 7s, perhaps even slightly below.
