Wanted to introduce myself and my new to me '22 4S CT. So much to learn.. never had an EV before. Have owned plenty of Porsches.. from 996TT's to a 997TT. What a transition between the two, lol.

I realized after getting home that a charging cable wasn't included, doh! What are my options? Just get a used Porsche mobile charger kit? Any other options that you guys use? I'd install a 240V circuit for quicker charging.

Mobile Porsche App.. can't get it to connect as new user? Any tips.. or do I need to contact Porsche on the weekday?

I'm sure I have a ton more questions coming.. the options list for my car are are follows, still trying to figure out what I have here..

Nice spec. Did you get the " [EH2] 25 FT Charging Cable" come with the car (listed on your options sheet)? That option only came with PMCC EVSE (a.k.a. home charger) - " [NW2] Mobile Charger Connect ". If missing, cam you ask for partial refund (also your spec mentions " [73D] Supply Cable For Nema 14 30 Electrical Socket"_?

That said, this maybe something you can use to get the dealer to give you some compensation. Outside of that, I'd avoid Porsche EVSE's in North America, as they are possibly the worst choice (if all the options were priced the same). There really are many options, and all of them beat Porsche on price, usability, and reliability, so any choice you make will almost certainly be better than Porsche EVSE. If you just want one recommendation, get the Tesla Universal Wall Connector installed in your garage - it will charge your Taycan, and any Tesla, and any future Porsches (which will use the Tesla connector), plus will give you the ability to add a second (or third, or up to six) EVSE's in your garage which will load share (you assign maximum total power they can all use, then they divide it between all cars plugged in and ready to charge). Personally, I have a Taycan and an Audi eTron (both with 19.2kW option), I have the older generation (now discontinued) Gen2 Tesla HWPC EVSEs which allow up to 19.2kW for each car, but also balance that 19.2kW between up to 3 cars. So for example, if only one of my cars is charging, it gets the full 19.2kW, but if both of them are charging, each gets 9.6kW.

1. Mobile App access must be activated by dealer as far as I now, but calling Porsche may do the trick but will have to provide proof of ownership.
2. Avoid any Porsche charging equipment especially the one that is listed on your build sheet. It should be included with the car do definitely get some kind of compensation for it, but otherwise something to avoid.
3. You have expensive built in 19.2kW Onboard charger so you can use it if you can come up with a 100Amp home circuit, but only useful in very narrow use cases, otherwise, just usual what you are saying 240Volt 60Amp circuit is more than enough to get you 3rd party EVSE of your choice. I use hard wired Emporia for clean look, and it is rock solid and easy to use.

There are a few other things to know if you are totally new, but let's get the 3 things above cleared before other things. My next action items would be:

1) Recalls completed to leverage any Service savings
2) Services completed with knowing what is next coming up. DYI items that are easy to do.
3) SoH (State of Health of the Battery) proactive monitoring for Red Circle of Death
4) Learning how to best prepare the car for public charging (Battery Friendly Option and Pre-Heating)
5) Car Useful settings such as Garage Opener, Dimond Buttons, screen Layout configs, Driving mode configs, etc.

2nd the Tesla Universal charger for home charging. Also think about picking up the DC charging adaptor so you can use the Tesla fast chargers on the road.

We got a 2025 Taycan base (for my wife). I love it so much I just sold my 991.2. Thought I'd never do that. But the Taycan is more refined, and at 65, I now place a quiet powerful vehicle over the raw guts the 911 offers. Based on my research, it seems demons hit the Taycan randomly, so read, read, read....

Appreciate the response.. so you recommend that I get this Tesla Connector and a tesla connector and call it good?

I spoke w/ my electrician buddy.. he says to hardwire this directly to my panel to eliminate any plug issues.. is that what you guys did? And lastly.. is their an Amazon equivalent to the Tesla charger that you guys recommend so I can get it delivered today? Tesla I don't think carries these in stock at their stores and I'd like to tackle this now on a Sunday :)

Yes, that is the EVSE. And yes, hardwiring it is the best way. It will give you 48A capacity which should satisfy all your needs, and future proof the installation for NACS vehicles (the connector all EV manufacturers in North America are switching to) plus ability to add up to 5 more and loadshare, should you get another EV in the future. You could look for an 80A EVSE since your car would be able to take advantage of it, but that entails a more expensive installation, and more limited options for EVSEs, so only that if you really need it. I have 80A capability, but I live in Everett area, and the 80A comes handy 1-3 times a year, when doing multiple trips to Seatac airport during holidays. If you decide you need an 80A EVSE, we can talk options.

If you travel with the car, pick yourself up a couple of adapters from NACS, to keep in the car. One for AC charging (for hotels, Tesla destination chargers) and one for DC charging (for Tesla superchargers). It opens up your charging options on the road.

Hardwire - Yes. Clean and make as close to the panel as you can, mine is next to it with copper going behind with no visible wires and you get full 48Amp out at 11kW to the car.
Amazon - get Emporia. #1 by State of Charge. You will see it on Amazon why.
Adapter - get Porsche branded, just got one from my dealer or order from SunCoast. You can now charge at Tesla chargers even using Porsche App. Issue is lining up to a short cable that would take 2 spaces.

Are you talking about this one? Is this what others recommend if I don't want to wait for the tesla?

I see you can get a hardwired version or the plug, the hardwired isn't on Prime for quick delivery. Wonder if that matters and if I can just get my own wires and grab the plugged version..

The 240V plug version will work as well since the cable is optional and it comes unattached in the box. Get it and install it wired into the panel, no problem.

This is the link from Emporia directly and the Black/CSS/Wired is available from them directly.

https://shop.emporiaenergy.com/products/emporia-ev-charger?variant=44861002121471

Also, I am not pushing this specific brand, you can watch the video from state of charge and they have to me endless options, this one is just #1, I was new, I bought it and it has been perfect for 2.5+ years.

You are looking for a hard wired EVSE that you can connect to a 60Amp home circuit (read spec as some only support lower amps max), that will delivery 48Amps out to the car resulting in max 11kW that is normal Taycan level of home charging.

You have 19.2kW onboard so technically you can do more, but not to overcomplicate, there is extreme rare case when this is needed for no benefit in my view for the cost. I actually set mine to lower than 48Amps since I have enough time to charge it to my target level overnight.

Keep in mind you can now charge at regular CSS public stations and Tesla stations (get adapter Tesla to CSS adapter from Porsche dealer or Suncoast Parts) if you ever need to charge quicker than home charger.

Update.. I installed the Emporia Level 2 charger thanks to SergeyIndy. Installation was relatively easy. Watch a few Youtube videos, keep your electrician buddy on speed dial and take your time.

It couldn't get it to charge at first.., kept saying "Charging Process Completed" even though it was only at 43% charge. I believe it had to do with the settings in the car related to the Timer.. Not sure what I deleted or changed, but it started charging finally at 11.5kW.

I need to get a better understanding for the Emporia app and the MyPorsche app so I can get things dialed in better and wrap my head around all this technology.

Thanks for all the tips!

@SergeyIndy or anyone for that matter.. need some advice/help.

I created a profile called "Home" on the Taycan and dialed in the minimum charge to 85%, with preferred charging between 12am-6am. I do not have a Timer profile set. I plugged in the Emporia and woke up to 99% charge. Why? What did I do wrong?

@Seattle996 I can certainly help as most new owners struggle to understand how to dial in the charging settings. I can tell you that I spent months if not most of the 2 years to fully understand how the charging logic works and I wrote many, I would say article in length about this topic along with many others.

We can go at it again for you, but the way I want to start is for you to tell us your use cases, instead of jumping into the purpose and configuration of Profiles, Timers, and how they work together to meet your needs.

I can unwind your use case as it appears to me what you want to accomplish and then we can expand from there.

Use Case 1: Wake up to 85% with Preferred Charging Between 12am - 6am.
I can already see based on what you configured, not your fault, how it went wrong.

#1. Emporia EVSE or any other charger (for others) must be configured to be as Dumb Charger, meaning it has to be set to charge when asked. That means any Schedule and Energy Management should be off.

#2. Home Profile (issue one) is only needed if you are having more than one home that you charge and you need different charging Profiles to differentiate by Location. Otherwise, you are getting yourself into a lot of issues by having it. My advice, Delete it, and use default General Profile and Location independent. At least, make that work first before you complicate yourself into multiple Profiles (Home 1, 2, etc.) and many Locations.

#3. Then make the following settings in the General Profile: Location Independent, 85%, Preferred Charging 12am - 6am, and Enable it. I would only use Preferred Charging time if absolutely necessary to save on charging costs, otherwise, it is not worth complicating your charging setup.

This is what to expect when this is setup that way:

A. Regardless of ANY settings, the Car will start charging ASAP to 25% if at plug in time your SOC is below 25%. This is to say that it does not care what you setup for your Preferred Charging window.

B. Then the Car will wait for the next instruction. The setup above, will instruct the car to wait until Preferred Charging window, and then resume charging to 85%.

C. I may need someone to confirm, as I do not use Preferred Charging window, but the Car should stop at 85% and not resume to charge to 100%, if using General Profile with 85% setting.

Please try this and let us know how it goes.

Just got mine Friday but came from another EV.

One option to get it to charge right now is select “direct charge” in the app. But that will charge to 100%.

Set the general profile to 25%. That’s the minimum charge it will charge immediately to whenever you plug in.

Set your timer to 85% and the time to your departure time and it will charge to 85% by whatever time you set.

Did you ever get your profile to connect to the app?

I bought mine used as well. Had to call the 800 customer service number- they sent me an email asking for my drivers license and proof of ownership (registration or bill of sale). Within a few minutes I got another email with a link and my app profile was set up. Then I had to log into the car.
