Hi everyone,

Am new to this forum but have been lurking for a while. Great forum and community. Taycan has got to be the best car ever, totally love it. Ordered a 4s recently in white with white mission E wheels but now having existential crisis and may switch over to black exterior (but retain mission E wheels in white).

Could current owners please advise if the normal black in the configurator that is free is a more true black that really stands out and is shiny or is it the jet black metallic premium option that is the better black? I do not want the car to look washed out.

Thanks!

I had three cars with the standard black exterior (2 BMW, 1 Porsche) and I loved it.
When it comes to maintaining plain black paintwork, both metallic and normal black are difficult to keep clean. You can see every speck of dust and often a few hours after washing the car the car looks dusty. But with black you gain the elegance and the mirror effect that you don't have with white. White is definitely easier to care for, but also not flawless, since you can see every stone chip, rust film on it. A white car often looks in wet winter pretty bad.

If you take white, take the Carrara White Metallic and the wheel surrounds too.

No matter how you decide, it will still be a great Taycan.

I have normal black. It is the worst paint I have ever seen. Any light touch already creates micro scratches. It made living with the car a pain in the a**. I got it wrapped now and it’s like having a new car. I can touch it anywhere, wipe some dust off and nothing happens to the wrap or paint.

Do not ever get the normal black on the Taycan. My opinion.

Black paint is generally ‘softer’ than other colour and generally marks more readily. I’ve had several metallic black Porsches and swore never again.

The way around it would be to apply a full film treatment.

Thank you every one for these responses and so quick too. Ok so will stick to white then (wife will be turbo happy, pun intended). As Zetta said its a lovely car in any color.

May I ask a followup, for the full film treatment, is this something one gets at any Porsche garage and how costly is it?

p.s does Batman drive the Taycan?

I have Taycan in black, despite it is true that black is hard to maintain but honestly not that bad. No one will go with a microscope to check the paint. overall, if you wash it regular, the car will appears shiny and ?.
For wrapping, I never did it in any of my cars, simply because in 5 years, we all will end up with a newer car and lives goes on.

My point if you like black color cars (I do), go for it and just wash it without any extra efforts, it is just a car.

Good call - I was in the same boat. Initially ordered black, then went to the dealer to compare standard vs metallic, standard looked better but was terrified of keeping it clean.

Switched all together to Carrera white with mission E’s in white. Car now here and couldn’t be happier with the decision.

Enjoy!

Straight black is always preferable (IMHO) to metallic black -- which always seems to look a little dusty. And the fact that black it is a free color should not in any way diminish your enthusiasm for it. I'm actually amazed that Porsche has not yet pulled a "Tesla" and started charging extra for black. Porsche could include all the greens, blues and reds for free and I would still pay extra for black. Don't know if black is actually a softer paint than other colors as some suggest -- the pigments may theoretically be a little softer but if you watch the taycan factory videos Porsche seems to slather the same protective cocktail over all the colors. Personally, I could care less if I have little stone chips, paint scratches, battle scars, etc. showing on my black paint. It is part of driving a car on public roads and it's the price we pay to drive a taycan that is black and badass.

I have a CWM Porsche, interestingly I have never had a white car but now I have 2, white with matching Mission E wheels looks awesome, but may be getting a little too common in some areas. I have had a few black cars in the past and they are difficult to keep clean, as many have mentioned above. As for a full car wrap (or any wrap whatsoever), if you are leasing completely unnecessary, but if you bought the car outright and plan on keeping it for more than 3 years may be something to consider. I personally do not put plastic on my cars or sofas, but what I do instead is to get any paint chips filled and car polished and waxed every year, makes it look like new. Here is a photo of my car dirty after being in the rain, not so bad but still needs a wash.

I have the jet black. I went back and forth a ton on jet black metallic vs just the normal black. So I went to see in person as they had both.

When I saw them side by side I liked the jet black metallic a lot better. It’s somewhat of a personal preference.

The jet black should be easier to keep clean. I like it so far. It has a bit more shine and flash.

White and Chalk show the car off best. But I’m just a black car person so I couldn’t get away from it. Any colors will be awesome.

Also remember that lots of replies on here come from overseas owners and things can be different in the UK.

We get a LOT of rain/muddy puddles and not much dust! Factor that in for colour choice.

I personally don't bother with wraps / ceramic coatings as we don't have as many stones / rocks as some countries/states do (where I imagine it's essential).

I just sold my M2 after nearly 5 years and 32k miles and it just had a few very small stone chips on the bonnet. So I will not bother wrapping or coating the Taycan.

Good point fish, I assume you have a black; is it metallic or normal black?

I was looking at black - but decided against as having had black cars in the past, they always got dirty in the UK winter.
One muddy puddle and all the hard work cleaning the car was wasted.

After dismissing black, I was initially looking at Neptune Blue, but have now gone for Ice Grey.
Happy with that choice having been to the dealership a few times looking at Taycans there.

I also really like the red. Not as flashy as I thought it might be.

Green is stunning, but very out there. I need the car for business and need to think about that too.

I don't think your Porsche dealer will do this - they might provide a GTECHNIQ Platinum service - https://www.gtechniqplatinum.com/ - ceramic coating rather than a PPF cover. I went for this instead. Other specialists will offer these services so best to seek advice on what's best if you want to pursue anything at all.
