Always fun and very interesting to watch!



This time they change a faulty module in the battery and also replace the rear inverter and manage to code it to the car.
They also manage to bring the 12V battery back to life.

It's what CT14 Garage also does but in Thailand.
They make it look easy, lol!

Indeed, I noticed that too.
Obviously it's much harder to open the 12V battery and you can damage the lid.
Anyway, it's nice to see how a "dead" 12V battery can be brought back to life.
Somehow this garage reminds me of the TV show Bangla Bangers...

I thought a charger designed for 12v lithium batteries with a wake-up/activation mode could be used to restart one. Maybe they tried that and it did not work, then pried off top of battery.

I saw that too and immediately thought that's going to be a fun rattle to diagnose later.

In this case the BMS had cut off the terminals so no charger would have woken it up as the voltage would never reach the battery cells.

Wonder why it powered down though. Spurious low voltage that triggered a safety circuit or similar?

It's interesting to see how the car is put together. Funnily the same coolant pump also broke on my car this summer making the battery overheat when charged.

Not true. External devices/chargers for 12v lithium batteries are designed to re-activate the internal shut-off mechanism. No need to disassemble the battery to activate and charge it.

Yes, it is.
That is/was the whole problem with the Taycan 12V battery.
It's also shown in the vid it has zero voltage.
The cut-off is around 12,0V.
The internal BMS just locks the battery.
That's why so many Taycans bricked due to the problem of not being charged by the HV battery.
If you're lucky you can recharge it but there are many cases that the 12V battery is completely dead.

Porsche just changes the battery @$2000 instead of opening that battery which is pretty simple to get it back to life as you can see in the video.

I missed the part in the owner manual about needing to pry off the top of the battery when its charge state is low and the contactor in the battery is open:

"The 12-volt lithium battery is located behind the front luggage compartment under a plastic cover.​

The 12-volt lithium battery is automatically disconnected from the vehicle electrical system if the battery charge state is low. The electrical system is deactivated temporarily. Whenever the battery is charged (for at least 10 minutes), jump-started, or connected to an external power supply, the electrical system is automatically reactivated. The 12-volt lithium battery is automatically reconnected to the vehicle electrical system.​

Never connect jumper cables directly to the battery.​

After establishing driving readiness, charging the 12-volt lithium battery with a charger (for at least 10 minutes), or supplying power from an external source, the electrical system will be automatically reactivated. I wonder how the guys in the X-431 YouTube video seal the top of the battery back on to protect the circuit board inside after they fixed it.

How hard is that to accept?

Exactly. And the manual generally do not describe failure scenarios that is not recoverable. This battery is clearly implementing an over cautious protection scheme that have really cost a lot of money.

The products I work on implement similar protections but it is only coming into action at way lower SoC's where the battery is permanently damaged.

Actually, I can't find it either...
Another way is to know about CT14 Garage's software, I guess he doesn't.
But we do.
I suggest you comment on that particular vid cuz I'm sure "that guy" is very interested in your opinion.
