This is incorrect, they announced back in May they're expanding their partnership with the same battery supplier that they've been working for the 911 hybrid.

V4 Drive is the battery platform.

They have several battery products, one of which is suitable for a BEV, it's a slightly different product than the battery in the 911 hybrid. See my previous post at the top of this page.
And since then, they have killed that partnership.
Outdated info.

Both articles states that Porsche reduced staff and refocused efforts to R&D with the quote:

"Now Porsche says Cellforce's R&D efforts will support the wider Volkswagen group and V4Smart, a battery company Porsche acquired this year. It supplies the high-performance cells for the 911 GTS hybrid sports car."

So sounds like V4 cells is an option.

"Unfortunately, the market for electric vehicles worldwide has not developed as originally thought. The framework conditions have changed fundamentally and we have to react to them," said Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche. "We have to conclude that the planned business model is not economically viable."
They fired 200 out of 300 people from there, and 100 they moved into R&D at VW.

And also the batteries powering a turbo charger (1.9 kwh at 400V) are vastly different than the ones powering a 800V+ EV ;). By weight alone, it's not even competitive with EV batteries from 2019.

But sure, we shall see :D

None of these are investments that scale fast, not in 5 years. It will be a while longer than when 718 EV is supposed to come out for these battery plans to materialize any real mass produced product.

@chun, no worries I have the answer. I’ll create a ppt with a timeline showing “Time Travel as a commodity service by 2023”. Then, I’ll print that out & take it to my garage where I have an old refrigerator box with a door flap cut into it. I’ll bring the printout inside and manipulate the controls that I Sharpied onto to the walls of the box. In a few seconds, I’ll emerge from the box in let’s say, 2050, & call my dealer to check on BEV 718 allocations.

Yeah keyword, in house. As per your 2nd article:

"Now Porsche says Cellforce's R&D efforts will support the wider Volkswagen group and V4Smart, a battery company Porsche acquired this year. It supplies the high-performance cells for the 911 GTS hybrid sports car."

So it's just reiterating what I stated. However, you ignore the fact that they have a BEV battery that has been developed for about a year now HP-5x with 277Wh/kg energy density, came out in Dec 2024. It differs from the 911 Hybrid battery. Again, all this is confirmed in my research I posted.

Your selective comprehension is spreading misinformation.

Wasn’t aware of their generation 2, so I stand corrected.

Just a few months ago this wasn’t released, so I believe it’s only Lab data, and its not yet qualified, which will take quite a while.

I still doubt that’s what will be used in the 718EV if it ever makes the light of day, as those cells seem to be a few years away from product ready - but I could be wrong on this also.

So far they have chosen lg nmc pouch cells for all of their EVs, due to them being market “tested” across so many manufacturers - which still turned out problematic

According to the very bottom of this article (below), the batteries have been in series production since April 2024, its unclear though if those were the 2nd generation or the ones used on the Hybrid 911. https://www.electrive.com/2025/08/1...iary-v4smart-presents-second-generation-cell/

I am not familiar with road certification standards that must be met for lithium batteries. However, it appears they have a very viable company and path to success/release.

It would seem the final step is integration and certification. Integration being things like battery pack tweaks (I assume battery dimensions are different), hardware/software integration to manage the cells for the motors/charging/etc --Each battery has different charge/discharge/heat characteristics I am sure they must work around and calibrate.

Then of course scaling, tooling, and production (converting factory floor, etc).

---

In summary, I think its likely they're shooting to be ready by fall 2026 for orders for a 2027 MY release. If so we should see hype news around March/April 2026 and potentially a full reveal. As in I wouldn't be surprised if they did a full reveal at the New York International Auto Show (or similar event) in early April 2026. Still I put this timeline as like a 33% chance of happening, not like overly confident in this timeline.

Fake gear shifts in the EV 718 ?

Road & Track -Porsche Studied Hyundai's Simulated Shifting for Electric Sports Cars Like the 718 EV
Vice-president of the 911 and 718 model lines Frank Moser had lots of nice things to say about the Ioniq 5 N.
...
During an interview with Australian media at the recent Icons of Porsche festival in Dubai, vice president of the 911 and 718 model line Frank Moser spoke highly of his experience with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, according to Drive. The executive noted that he had driven the car “several times,” and that it was an "eye-opening" machine for him and his team. In fact, he even used an Ioniq 5 N to pick up none other than GT division boss Andreas Preuninger, who Moser claims was impressed by the EV."We learnt a lot from that [Ioniq 5 N],” said Moser. “I drove it several times. They made it really, really good."

Moser even did his best Din Djarin impression when asked if Porsche would consider implementing such a system into the electrified 718, stating, “this is the way”—but noted that customers should have the option to disable the feature, as in the Hyundai products.

Believe it when I see it. Assuming I’m even legally able to still drive by then.

The yet-to-be-abandonned(?) 718 EV got spy-shot-ed during a test in France (with a Macan EV following it). Still disguised, the rear looks too squarish to be the real deal :

Was looking for the charging port on the side but it looks like it’s in the rear bumper. Could it simply be an ICE model?

An ICE 718 would have side air inputs. Maybe those could be hidden under the car or from the front on this mule. But the original poster an another forum, who took these photos, didn't mention any engine noise. He was pretty sure those two are electric.

I was wondering how the front look would work; I actually quite like it.
