Can anybody explain to me why I subscribe to PVTS via the official Porsche route, and yet I don't have any fobs and yet you all do?

On the facelifted Taycan, PVTS is not fitted as standard at the factory. At my dealer it's a €2,000 option to have it fitted, which also includes the subscription for the first two years.
Without a necessary physical token (fob, card, maybe even a paired phone) being absent from the vehicle, how does the monitoring service get alerted by your car? Maybe it only responds to the standard alarm being triggered, have you ever received an alert? I'd assumed that all Taycans have the necessary hardware and software integrated as part of the default build, and that the only option is to choose whether to pay for the subscription service and receive the 2 fobs.

I don't ever remember receiving an alert. It all seems to be working fine. The dealer told me it doesn't come with fobs. It's definitely the official PVTS that is pre-built into the car, and I subscribe via the Porsche online tool. I can also interact with it via the app, such as putting into transport mode when I need to.

I guess it just works off the alarm being triggered.

But I certainly don't have any fobs, and I never have done. Not for this Taycan or my previous Taycan.

Have a slot for a "waiting appointment" to get mine re-paired @ Colchester in around 10 days. Soonest I could get.

They were trying to sting me £76 for the privilege too. Ever heard of warranty peeps? Ahh Porsche tax ?

How does that work if someone jumps in your car (theoretically speaking) and drives off - no fobs, no alarm etc.? Obviously you'd just call it in...but.

I think that's the point of having a fob. Without having one present in the vehicle, then the vehicle is effectively taken without authorisation, and flagged up as nicked.

It's a shame we can't "pair" these fobs using the PCM. Real hassle that it needs a dealer visit.

I've no idea. I've had other cars that have had trackers that didn't come with a fob, such as a couple of M3s. My R8 has a tracker but no fob. It seems they don't use them in the Netherlands as far as I can tell.

I’ve got bikes fitted with trackers and they are the same. There’s a fob to let the tracker know it’s “you” riding it.

It may have to do with Thatcham ratings we’ve got for security stuff here?

A quick internet search suggests that there's a different Porsche tracker service offering that triggers theft alerts if a vehicle moves without the ignition (or power in the case of the Taycan) being on, but not if car-jacked or stolen with the key or otherwise hacked. Presumably the offerings differ by country.

Maybe. I've owned a few cars in the UK that required trackers, and they came with fobs, such as M3s, so I have experience of them. The cars that I've owned in Holland and that have required trackers, however, have never come with a fob. I'm glad to be honest, as I find the fob a pain in the arse.

Sorted today after a waiting appointment at Colchester. Both PVTS fobs had to be re-paired to the car.

Now correctly flags up a message in the right hand tube if the fob isn’t in the car when you drive off.

Thanks for all the advice ?
