Hi all, just purchased a used 2022 TS CT early this week from a porsche dealer with 7700mi on the clock. Condition is pretty pristine with front PPF and all the bells and whistles so you can tell the person that bought it new took care of it.
I’m new to EVs but the drive and the charging experience is so far so good. However I’ve notice that the mileage shown on a full charge is almost too low after surfing around the forum. 216mi at 100% to be exact. I’ve just done a 300mi round trip at the weekend and on the return trip, I drove 126mi and got 2.1 mi/kWh. Mostly motorway driving at around 80-85mph which I remember seeing 44kWh/100mi on the clock…
The car is fully loaded with 4 people with some light weight luggages. But still, seems odd that most people on the forum are getting 250mi on a couple of years old turbo/s and mine is one of the lowest I’ve seen so far.
I’m loving the car already but something is not right with the range or is it just me? I mean since it was from a Porsche dealer I didn’t think twice about it (even though I’m the 3rd owner if this car) as they meant to do 111 points check before the hand over, but then again I’ve never got given the report, nor any paperwork since the day I’ve purchased it. I mean with ICE car you normally get a ton of paperwork with a used car so kind of feel odd… is this normal?
Thanks in advance guys!

I’d normally see 2.4-2.5 mi/kWh driving that speed in my CT4. It’s also relatively flat here in TX. Not sure if that’s helpful to you but it’s a data point.

Ok that’s not too badly off the chart then… yeah some minor hills here but nothing major. I’d say I drove pretty tamely with maybe a few blazes here and there to over take. Maybe because I have a car full of people? She was a porker to start off with anyway so didn’t think it would much that much of a difference :CWL:

Your estimated mileage will depend on your prior driving, which is affected by your wheels and tires, weather/temperatures (precipitation and cold kills range), your driving style (more aggressive uses more energy), the duration of trips (short trips use more energy), pre-conditioning, even how often you charge (Tacan hides its vampire drain, it all shows up in the very inefficient first few miles of subsequent trip).

My 2023 TCT has a lifetime average of 2.4 miles/KWh right now (~6300 miles). Did ~130 miles yesterday, averaged 2.7miles/KWh - warm sunny day. So far the best I have ever seen was 2.9 miles/kWh, once, similar ~130 mile trip. My drive home from the dealer, 3,500 miles across USA in the winter, averaged 2.2 miles/KWh. I hope that gives you some idea.

Speeds of 80 to 85MPH with four people?! That would do it! Slowing down 30mph should drastically improve your range, but perhaps take a bit of your fun away. Alternatively, you can enjoy the impressive performance of your beautiful car. It's fascinating how many Taycan owners focus on range, while 911 Turbo owners don’t seem to discuss mileage too much, even though both cars' range depends on how much you press the pedal!

Yeah make sense, I just drove 50mi grandma style this morning and got 2.7mi/kWh so that has proven that my range is actually normal and my battery is looking fine :like:

Naa not me haha I drive it hard and have as much fun as I can, as least when my wife is not in the car that is:CWL:. Honestly range doesn't bother me, my expectation was around 200mi. But seeing everyone else's figures on another thread worried me... definitely good to know that there's nothing wrong with it!

Reading your original post of 80-85 put a smile on my face, thinking there’s a man who enjoys his car! It’s crazy the range my wife gets with her gentle driving in range mode but how exciting is that?

That turbo s is a beast! Tell us more about it when you have a chance, and pls post some pics. We just got back from England, lots and lots of Taycans there! My favourite was a carmine red one in Mayfair. ?

I used to live in London but don’t go there any more.
I don’t see many Taycans around here but I suppose a Taycan costs less to run in London because of the clean air charges.

I guess wifes usually prioritize comfort and even the TS ST is no slouch on that aspect! She’s enjoying the super comfy seats and those lovely Burmesters without ever stepping on the pedal hard …and that’s our job!
I was debating between crayon and ice grey, seeing them in the flesh I went for ice grey. Looks amazing with all the carbony bits and the metallic actually has a different tone to it in different lighting ? it also keeps clean for longer after washes which is a huge bonus!! You can tell I’m in love with it lol.

Rainy week here in the UK but yeah, definitely going to post some pics when the sun comes out next!

I was in Bristol the other week and gosh they barely has any EVs around, the charging infrastructure is so behind it’s laughable… and yet they also have clean air charges in town so everyone just have to pay it’s sad…

The charging infrastructure is poor around here too. Without charging at home I wouldn't bother with an EV.
It is also so poor where my daughter lives I am paying for her to fit a commando socket so visiting is less of a pain, the fastest charger (yes there is a single one) is 50kW 10 miles away.

Don’t think there is any issues with your car. You have given some information but there is some missing as well

2.1 mi/kWh looks low, but your average speed was only 35 mph? So must have been a lot of changes in speed? Accelerating takes a lot of energy. Guess most references on the forum are from driving longer trips in warm weather (Texas, Florida, California), even speed on motorways, driving on smooth asphalt roads etc.

Did you inflate your tyres to full load when driving with 4 persons plus some luggage?

Was the road surface smooth or typical UK rough surface or concrete surface. I have seen consumption figures increase by 10 %+ when driving on rough road surface.

What was the outside temperature? Heating a car can take more energy than cooling the car. And the battery likes to be heated up to about 30 C when driving on a trip. If you do a lot of short trips (not the case above), a lot of energy is spent just heating the battery.

The best way to check range and battery is to charge it to 100% on AC. When full drive it at once and drive a long trip at even speeds on smooth road surface (might be difficult in the UK). Drive the car perhaps over 3 days on longer trips like that, down to SOC of 5%, and check consumption. (ideal would be to do it in one trip and fully charge the battery again and see how much energy you could put into the battery). Do not let the car stand with 100% charge though as that is not ideal .

Charging at home is one of the big benefits of EVs. If I had to solely DC charge, I would pass with today's charging infrastructure too, even if it was a Tesla which is considered to have the better charging network. DC charging on trips works for me, but for everyday driving I want home charging. If I plan any extended visits, I either book a hotel with AC charging, or stay with friends/family who either already have EVSE or at least a way to hookup a mobile one. Tesla to J1772 comes handy too, both at hotels or friends/family homes.

I offered tyo pay for a commando socket at my daughter's house because on the normal domestic 13A circuit I get around 2.2 kW into the car. Since on my checks domestic charging comes with about 500W overhead the waste is a considerable portion of that we are paying for. With the higher power single phase system domestically legal here I get 6.7kW into the car whilst 7.2kW is coming from the charger so the waste one pays for is about 3 times less on a dedicated charge point at home than a 13A plug which, for me, is emergency only but I have to use there until the new socket is fitted.
The only DC charger within 10 miles of her is 50kW and a single stall in a small village carpark almost always occupied.
