I live around some of these areas. Great read as always - I truly enjoy your narration of the nice little details.

in the future, I would suggest also the less famous passes, if not visited before : Ofen pass (majestic scenery through the national park of Switzerland), Umbrail (temporarily closed due to falling rocks…) and Splügen offer amazing drives and in general less traffic.

Nice one! Just a couple of tips: from Davos, heading towards Austria without going through Lichtenstein (not so scenic) you can either shoot up to Flüela pass, good for views and photos (but quite narrow and overflowing with caravans, not a spirited drive typically) or load the car onto the train at Prättigau (Vereina tunnel) for a short ride. Then Zernez -->Ofen pass is very fun to drive down with barely any traffic and scary cliffs, to the val müstair getting shortly into Italy -->Malles --> Curon (nice lake with the bell tower emerging from waters) --> back to Austria.

It's really a pleasant and varied drive.

You probably get arrested for running Waze in CH . Don't speed in CH, ever, it just isn't worth it. A friend got done there at 165 in a 120 in the late 90s and got a criminal record. It meant he couldn't emigrate to Aus as planned. There was also the 3 months gross salary fine to pay.

If you visit the bell tower : DC charger at the parking. And if you turn right in Mals you can do the Stilfersjoch (aka Stelvio)

Day 7: Andermatt (Switzerland) -> Davos (Switzerland)

We start our day off by over eating at the amazing breakfast at our hotel – The Chendi – setting us up for the day ahead, On leaving Andermatt, we immediately starting climbing up the Oberalppass.

There are a lot of sports car tours coming against us – mostly McLaren's and some brightly painted Porsche's.

The summit of the pass is busy and we're just after getting going – so we don't stop. The turns on the other side are a lot of fun – it's clear why the tours are coming against us!

We're heading eastwards towards Davos – and pass through many quaint towns.

Many of which have thin main streets between the buildings – especially considering it's a two way road!

One strange glitch we have with the PCM today – is that the battery state-of-charge estimations are not being provided – both at our route waypoints or destination.

Generally these estimations are very accurate and we've come to rely on them. We suspect its a backend service issue – but try a two-finger reset and that actually fixes it. ?



At @PorscheCH helpful suggestion – we turn right to take in the Splügenpass.

Setting up our GoPro camera's before starting the climb. We want to capture our rear-wheel steering working hard on the twisty climb up.



Unfortunately, we're initially stuck behind a camper van – despite the warning signs at the start of the pass restricting it to vehicles of 2.2 meters.

Thankfully, they eventually give up – pull in – and the twisty road opens up ahead of us.

Reaching the top about 12 minutes later at the Italian border.



We're pleased our camera's are still attached - they have come off in the past – including losing one on our last trip to Norway!



We're not going any further in this direction – so turn at the border – without entering Italy – and head back down.

The PCM welcomes us to Italy and then Switzerland within 5 seconds of each other – that's a first!

Where we check the footage we've captured. Yes, the rear-wheel steering is great – it really works hard – it's not at all subtle.

As we captured dual footage looking forwards and rearwards – we'll put together a split video – demonstrating it – when we get back to Ireland.

The route from the Splügen and Davos is a scenic and easy drive.

And it isn't long before we're pulling up to our overnight hotel – the oddly shaped Alpengold in Davos.

Day 8: Davos (Switzerland) -> Zell-am-See (Austria)

We awake to yet another beautiful day here in Switzerland – and a vista over Davos from our hotel room balcony.

After a busy breakfast, we take the elevator down to the basement car park where our car is fully charged. All week we've been getting an easy 400 km range out of our battery due to all the re-gen opportunities in the alps.



Again at @PorscheCH's suggestion – we head down to the train station at Selfranga.

And board our second car train through the mountains to Saglianis.

After a quick disembarking – and lowering our car's air suspension back down to normal height – we start the climb up the Ofen (or Furon) pass.

And into the Swiss National Park.

The smooth turns allowing us to enjoy the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). It's fun to put the PDCC display on our left most tube on the drivers display and see it working hard to keep our car flat in the turns. Normally, we never have it showing – but here it add's to the experience!

Plenty of nice Porsche's passing against us again today. We'd never pick a yellow 911 from the showroom – but out here in this weather – it looks great.

We squeeze through the now familiar thin roads through some towns.

And pop back into Italy.

Where we drive alongside Lake Muta & Lake Resia towards Curon Vensota – where we stop for lunch. As its midday Saturday – it's really busy here – especially with bikers – and we grab some food at a nearby cafe.

Afterwards, it's a short drive to reach the Austrian border – where as we're moving from one EU country to another (Italy->Austria) there isn't even the pretence of border infrastructure.

We lose some altitude and gain some energy into our battery. The roads are busy here and we're permanently in a queue of traffic – sometimes at the mercy of the many camper vans and slow coaches.

We stop in at a service station and it's here we realise that our apartment hotel for tonight's reception closes at 20:00 (8PM). We had planned to stop off at an IONITY along our route to charge up – as we are unsure of the destination charging situation tonight and want to play it safe.

However, if we remove that stop and take a chance on getting a destination charge – PCM is estimating we'll get in for 19:30 – giving us a small safety margin to make it before reception closes.

We also notice there is a nearby Mer (Norwegian Energy Company) 2 km from our hotel if can't get a charge – and we carry a dedicated RFID token for those chargers from our winter trips to Norway.

It's time to hit some motorway to make progress east.

After 150 km of motorway, we exit onto some B-roads. Where traffic is quieter and the scenery remains pretty.

One final drop down towards Zell-am-See – where we gain nearly 5% of battery charge.

Before driving along the valley towards our hotel – which is across the road from Porsche Design HQ.

Where someone has taken an already ugly Porsche Panamera from the factory and murdered it!

Luckily there is a destination charging place available and we plug in for a free 7kW single-phase charge up of our battery. We've been driving for most of this trip on free destination charges, with the last public charge back in Baden-Baden!

On the trip – when we removed the IONITY stop from our route the PCM estimated we'd arrive with 20% state-of-charge at this hotel and that is exactly what we arrived with.

The accuracy of the PCM calculations is what allows us to make en-route decisions like this – in what is genuinely complex terrain from a energy usage perspective.

@tigerbalm , thank you for a very enjoyable report again. Love all the details and photos together. A real inspiration to try out some of these routes, since we live only a few hours from these roads and passes.

Great to hear that the car estimates all the elevations and speeds so accurately. That Is such a comfort on long trips. And in Switzerland you are not tempted to drive faster than the planned and allowed speed limits.
