My Tacan is at Bristol OPC for Warranty work (90 minute round trip). Service want to charge me £15 a day for Loan car. This can't be right/normal can it??

Yup that's what they charged me for warranty work too. When you look at the paperwork the charge is actually to reduce the excess on insurance down to a reasonable level so I thought it was worth it (and I got a Taycan too)

So you have a fault with your car, take time out to deliver it to OPC and they then charge you? Surely that's taking the *iss. Can I charge them for the time out and inconvenience??

kind of - they’re committed to fixing it for free and you can stay and drink free coffee. The way I see it is if you decide to borrow a car then it’s probably worth paying for, for the convenience of avoiding a lift there and back or wasting time sat in the dealer.
Having said that I’ve just spent 2hrs sat in a Mini dealer waiting for my wife’s car, they had pods to work in with WiFi, coffee and snacks. Got loads done

I get that. It may be a simple fault but they insisted it’s booked in for 2 days!!! It’s a matter of principle - I’m not paying!

If it's any consolation, I found the warranty/service experience at Bristol outstanding

That’s not really the point but Josh and Anthony in Service have been very good but I’ve had too many problems and charging for loan cars with warranty claims is not on! It is either a parts problem or incorrect fitment and TTBOMK not my problem!

Interesting - different geography of course but here in Houston I've been given a loaner on every single warranty or service related visit - in fact it is automatically scheduled with the service visit (and I won't turn up if not locked in!) Usually a 2023-2024 Macan S but also a Cayenne etc. I know loaners not always available at smaller dealerships in the US but many often then provide a free rental car (fairly common with my last BMW M4). No idea TBH what the std. process is in the UK with warranty service and if your experience atypical?

I recently had the same experience at Porsche centre -wife<s Macan in for a full service -a loaner out basically overnight and charged for two days hire - time to change the brand (lol)

I get the definite feeling that some OPCs are constantly trying to upsell or generate business.

I do think it's worth recognising that the charge isn't for the loan of the vehicle, it's to reduce the insurance excess. They didn't make this clean until I came to pay, but suddenly all became clear.

I had the option of having the loaner for free, but the excess would have been £1500. The £15 reduced to something like £100

"6.3. The Porsche Warranty does not include claims against Porsche beyond rectification of the material defect. This limitation also excludes, without limitation:
6.3.2. claims for compensation in any form, including by way of example, for the provision of a loan vehicle, for damages, for reimbursement of futile expenses or for loss of use."

I think there is confusion - the cost is not for the car, its for the insurance which is not covered under the warranty dealer-Porsche corporate schedule of rates, i.e. they cant claim for it.

There have been nightmare issues with customers having to pay excessive excess when in an accident, thus this is a way of avoiding such issues.

This is not a Porsche thing, its industry wide, those that dont charge, beware as you could have a big insurance excess payment regardless who is to blame.

Bristol OPC have replaced my rear ‘dash cam’ (5 months old and u/s for last 3) and submitted a Warranty claim. I was aware of high excess on courtesy cars but never paid to reduce it as mine is very similar!!

Makes a lot of sense - thanks for sharing.

In the US my insurance covers rental cars and loaners, so it is covered with no additional fee.
