It will be the extra width that gives bulk of the drag on the earlier 21" wheels, the spokes make a difference but nowhere near as much as the width IME.

I suppose what this mainly gives is a 21" wheel choice with similar drag to the 20" wheels which is nice if you like the styling too.
I compared the tyre sizes in that Porsche range estimator. No idea on how accurate it really is but it is a start.
The old 21 inch were 265 front and 305 rears. The new 21’s are 245 front and 285 rears. That width on the old 20’s is in other words the same as on the new 21’s.

Porsche claimed that the change of wheels and tyres contributed to 40 km WLTP range.
But if I use their old range estimator a change from 21 mission E to 20 inch Turbo aero, that only increases the range bu 20 km on motorway driving! About half of what they claimed?

So I think Porsche must have done more to the aero around the wheels or front than just changing the width and some aero on the wheels??

Any views?

Did they release the full sizes for the wheels and tyres? I had a look through the slide show but must be missing it.
In the configurator, click on the tiny tyre symbol (showing the end-on view) of any of the wheel options- it opens a pop-up with all the tyre-specific data.

Thanks WvT.

I was half thinking to try them next, but the aero wheels are half an inch narrower....

Never mind.

The wheel design itself is different and, probably more importantly, the tyre brand is different.

I'd bet the latter is the biggie.

The 21" Aero Design also introduces two new tyres: the Hankook Ion Evo and the Continental SportContact 7.
Both are newer designs/products than the other tyres beeing offered with the 21" wheels i.e. the Pirellies' and the GoodYears'.

Would expect the newer tyre designs to be even more targeted towards low rolling resistance. But main effect on range should probably be reduced contact patch and lower drag, as noted by @f1eng

Calculations show that the speed difference on the front axle is -0,12 % and the rear axle is 0,42 %, when comparing the existing 20" with the new 21" tyres. Not sure if these deltas are large enought to warrant a software update for the gen.1 Taycans, but that of course is for Porsche to decide.

Will ask my dealer next time I visit, if there are any technical advice against fitting these new 21" wheels to the gen.1 cars.

Would this mean that the new 21 inch Aero allow for 20km more range than the 20 inch Aero (and the Turbo S Aero)?
That would be an amazing accomplishment.
Still watching out for potholes of course ;)

Willing to bet any new tires are NF1. NF0 will never get anything other than what is already available.

The new Mission E Wheels are available via Suncoast Parts in the United States.

The offsets look the same, but I can't find if the lug pattern and lug nuts remain the same.

The sales representative indicated they are not backwards compatible, but I don't trust that they have all the information.

Isn't the tyre rating number the next generation of approved tyres?

So N is Porsche, F is Taycan and 0 would be the first approved tyres, 1 the second etc. Rather than the number being the mark of the model.

??

I believe Gen 1 Taycans should use NF0, then when those aren’t available NF1. I’m not concerned about NF specifically, but mixing MO1, NF0 or unmarked tires I can see being problematic.
https://www.porschespokane.com/porsche-n-spec-tires-explained/

If a vehicle was originally delivered with N-specification tires that have been discontinued and are no longer available, it is recommended to replace all four tires to a higher numeric N-specification design appropriate for that vehicle.

Good point. But seems some of the available winter wheel and tyre set's in the Tequipment selector, are nearly identical between the two versions of the J1 platform. But def need to verify with Porsche...

I’m looking for some new summer tyres for my 21” wheels. I currently have the Pirelli P Zero NF0 and they are not the best from noise and range perspective. Those new Hankook Ion tyres seems very interesting. I have seen that they are available as non NF0 certified in the factory spec 305/30 rear and 265/35 front. But now I’m thinking if the 285/35/21 rear and 245/40/21 front with NF0 certification would make a good fit and also perhaps give a bit better range?

Anyone tried either combination? Would the 285 and 245 be too narrow for my existing wheels? Some more range and quiter tyres would be great.

Thankful for any input or advice!
