Just ordered a new 2025 Taycan and I was originally interested in going with Mission E wheels, since I really liked them on the old Taycans. But, as most people would agree, the new 2025 Mission wheels are really ugly and look like life preservers for someone drowning. The Porsche associate that I’ve been working with has been amazing and has been doing research for me on all of my questions, concerns, etc, and he found out that the reason the new Mission wheels look. Like that is because Porsche made these new wheels a lot more aerodynamic. Apparently the old Mission wheels aren’t wind resistant at all, which is why they required larger brakes, to subdue some of the resonance from the wind. Just thought I’d share….

Helpful info, but let's look at the data. Agree, the new Mission Es are redesigned for efficiency which has been a major focus of the refresh. Original Mission E wheels are just so balanced in the looks department and open enough to show the calipers resulting, in part, in head turning looks of the Taycan standing still or in motion. Life savers chunky look is not worth +12km in efficiency to me or meaning that the originals are "not wind resistant at all".

I agree. I wish the old Mission wheels were still an option for 2025 Taycans. I don’t care about gaining an extra 2-5 miles of efficiency for horrid looking life preserver wheels like the new version.

Those look great. So you mentioned you were using ceramic brakes to prevent dust? They still staying pretty clean?
They stay very clean and are effortless to wash when coated with this stuff …

The new wheels are simply hideous, I’m not fussed about gaining a few miles of range.

I absolutely agree with you on the look of the new mission E wheels, but I would definitely take anything a sales associate says with a grain of salt. There is no way that Porsche made the decision to offer the massive (and terrific looking) brakes on the original Taycan due to 'aerodynamic considerations'. The larger brakes are considerably more expensive than the smaller ones, and that was likely the reason for the decision.

No, what he was saying is that when the old Mission wheels were chosen as an option, the larger brakes were required to help with noise / wind / aerodynamics. It makes sense, why else would the larger brakes be required with the Mission wheel option when building the car on the website

IMO the reason was the very open wheels give a full view of the brakes and the perfectly adequate smaller ones looked a bit naked.

I would be surprised if the reason was an aero effect of the discs, but it could be, the aero influence of wheels is big and generally negative.
On racing cars it is a marked gain to induce flow outwards through the wheels, it is done ducting the brake cooling air on single seaters (with restrictions since the gain is big) and with vortex generators on the front corners of the bodywork in sports-racing cars.

Yea I hear you. To be honest, I wish the old Mission wheels were still an option. I don’t give a damn about going a fraction of a second faster over 100 miles or whatever the minuscule difference is.
