Hmm my 2017 140k mile Model S disagrees.... Ramping up 3 maybe because Melon pushed (due to lack of understanding and approached scale without proper development of production processes).
Model S however is pretty faultless, it's the inverse Taycan - great EV but a not a great car. Taycan is a great car but a hopeless EV.
Model S came out in 2012. Tesla had 5 years to get it right before your Model S. Prior to that they had the roadster.

And Taycan came out in 2020? Your point?
Earlier Model S, still didn't have fundamental early life problems like J1.1s do.

Dodgy door handles is about it

here's some issue with early Tesla:

Early generation Tesla models, particularly the Model S and Model X, faced several issues that the company addressed over time through software updates, design changes, and recalls. Some of the notable issues include:

  1. Battery Fires: Early Model S vehicles experienced instances of battery fires due to damage to the battery pack from road debris. Tesla improved the design of the battery shield to enhance protection and implemented software updates to monitor battery health more effectively.
  2. Door Mechanisms: The Model X's falcon-wing doors had issues with alignment and reliability. Tesla made adjustments to the door mechanisms and improved the software controlling the doors to enhance their performance and user experience.
  3. Infotainment System: The early versions of the infotainment system had bugs and performance issues, including slow response times and occasional crashes. Tesla continuously updated the software to improve functionality and added features over time.
  4. Quality Control: Early production models had issues with fit and finish, such as inconsistent panel gaps and paint quality. Tesla made improvements in manufacturing processes and quality control to address these concerns in later models.
  5. Autopilot Limitations: Early iterations of Tesla's Autopilot had limited capabilities and sometimes struggled with complex driving scenarios. Tesla has significantly improved Autopilot functionality through software updates and enhancements to the hardware over time.
  6. Charging Issues: Some early Model S owners reported issues with the charging ports and connectors. Tesla addressed these issues through design modifications and improved customer support for charging-related problems.
  7. Suspension Problems: The air suspension system in early Model S vehicles was prone to failure, particularly in cold climates. Tesla made updates to the suspension components and offered extended warranties for affected vehicles.
-------

My point is that there will be teething issues. The Taycan, being Porsche's First EV is bound to have teething issues. My MachE also has many of the same issues that plague the Taycan.

For the record, I'm on my second Tesla Model Y. It's the only car in my life that I bought again (because it was that good, and far ahead of it's competitor). I've owned over 15 different cars in my life, so that says something.

Yeah Model X was a complete mess. A silly answer to a question nobody asked.

The key point here is Tesla iterated parts quickly, OTA'd fixes quickly and kept owners happy with stunning service that felt more like a club than a dealer. Those days sadly long gone.

Porsche have done none of this.

It was a response to your post that said early Model S didn't have issues, when it did. I agree that Tesla OTA updates and software fixes are industry leading. Unfortunately, that will never happen with traditional OEMs until they move everything in house like Tesla or Rivian.

I said that even early S didn't have **fundamental** problems like the Taycan does. Nor wholesale charger and battery failures.

That's the key word in my post that you seem to have missed.

Yes there were of niggles but nothing like a wholesale battery or charger recall.

I have to say the Juniper is the best overall DD I have owned. I have had more cars in my life than I can remember. The Juniper is quieter than the Taycan and just as fast. It corners very well and the tech is bullet proof. The only caveat is that one needs about $2k in upgrades to get it up to speed.

We have Juniper in the family too, wifes car. Overall its a great car, so much more comfortable compared to the older model. Cross Turismo and Juniper I like both. For a quick shopping trip its Juniper all day but for the engaging, fun drive CT is my choice.

My first Taycan lived in the shop. My second one has an issue with the chassis that just would not go away - had it about 5 months and it's been at the shop 6 weeks already. Not to mention the day they delivered took 5 hours to do it because the car refused to connect to the servers. I took it home that night as a guest driver and reset the hell out of it for 6 hours on Saturday and fixed it. This is not normal.
When I took my car in for it's 3rd heater, the dealer said they currently had more issues with Taycans than all the other fleet combined.

But not enough trained techs, hence the huge waits (up to 3 mths with a loaner) to get it seen to, whereas any other model could be booked in at shorter notice.

I had a 2013 Model S. Tesla got the technology right from the start, I continue received updates and new functions until I sold it in 2023.

Tesla nailed the tech portion down. I think a large part of that was because they started from a fresh slate. All their components were integrated from the start. Whereas Porsche has multiple suppliers for the various components that needs to communicate with each other. Really hard to upgrade one, and not mess up another.
