Mine does lock as I walk away. Sometimes.

Most of the time it doesn’t

J1.1 Taycans do not have "walk away locking" but can't comment on J1.2s.

Door handles will auto retract after a period of time but not lock.

Comfort opening or not.

If the car is unlocked and no door, frunk or trunk is opened within 45 secs then the car will auto lock - door mirrors remain folded out which is annoying.

The feature was introduced on the Macan EV first.

This is correct on the J1.2 as well.

There is nothing in the manual on walk away locking but it does say this:

  • The door handles retract 45 seconds after the doors, hood, and trunk lid are locked. The vehicle remains unlocked.
  • If the vehicle is unlocked and if a door or the trunk is not opened within 45 seconds, the vehicle is locked again automatically.

I did find this on leaving your key in the car :)

If the key is inside the vehicle when you lock it, the vehicle is unlocked again. Several warning tones sound and the emergency flasher flashes four times. If a door or the trunk lid is not opened within approx. 45 seconds, the vehicle is locked and can only be unlocked using a second key.

  • Make sure that the vehicle key is not left inside the vehicle when closing it.

There is nothing in the manual on walk away locking...
I wonder if people who think they have walk-away-locking are seeing the handles retract and assume it's locked. Obviously, if you come back to check it's going to unlock anyway, unless you leave the key out of range or get someone else to check.

In my manual, this section appears under the “Unlocking Car” section which tells me that with Comfort Access, if it senses you get near the car it unlocks itself, but if a door, frunk, or trunk are not opened then it locks itself back again.

Yes, correct, it does re-lock if a door isn't opened after if unlocks. This isn't the same as assuming the car always locks itself when you walk away with the key.

99.99% that's the reason given it's never been an option / feature of Comfort Opening / Entry on the Taycan since 2019.

Macan EV introduced it so I expect it's on the Cayenne EV too.

From the Macan EV manual if Comfort option installed:

Automatically unlocking the doors when approaching the vehicle

Function activated
Vehicle key or mobile device with Porsche Digital Key carried on person
Approach the vehicle.
The hazard warning lights flash once. The vehicle is unlocked, depending on the setting.

Automatically locking doors when moving away from the vehicle

Function activated
Gear P engaged
Doors fully closed
Front bonnet and tailgate fully closed
Vehicle key or mobile device with Porsche Digital Key carried on person
No vehicle key or mobile device with Porsche Digital Key that uses UWB technology in combination with Bluetooth® left in the vehicle
Move away from the vehicle (> 3 m).
The hazard warning lights flash slowly once.

Sorry but my J1.1 definitely locks when I walk away. It's also stated in the manual. I don't know where you're getting your information but m 2021 locks every time I walk away!

Post a link to the manual and a screen shot of what you describe.

Here is the later 2021 manual (not sure if this is exact for you): https://manual.porsche.com/#/wpi/Y1A-2021-20200504-37-NAR-2.0.2/en_US/main

Here is what I could find in your manual on this (it's the same as my 2025... no auto locking on walk away):

I also have a J1.1 from 2024 and it does not have auto lock when I walk away (I do have comfort entry option) That's the first thing I have asked to the dealership and the answer was that Taycans do not have that feature, period. It's only from the new Macan electric. I have read the manual multiple time and indeed, there is absolutely no mention of a keyless locking feature when walking away.

I was flabbergasted when I heard this. How come a car that has sensors to detect a key can do keyless unlocking but not keyless locking!? Renault cars have this as standard for more than 10 years now...

well maybe in Europe that feature doesn’t exist but here in the States it absolutely does

No way, really!? I would be very interested to see the section explaining this from your user manual, if you wouldn't mind sharing it?

Just to annoy ever more the dealership. I'm pissed that we don't get acces to that.
