Owner of a 2020 Taycan Turbo, which I bought off-lease in 2024. It's relatively low mileage, at 30K. The CPO warranty is expiring soon and I'm on the fence on trading it in (for a low mileage Macan 4s perhaps) or extending warranty coverage out to 8 years, replacing the PSCB pads, and keeping it. But also wondering what happens then? I know these won't depreciate to $0, but will they be worth much for trade in or resale at that point? Without a battery warranty is the likely best choice just to keep driving it until a catastrophic failure occurs? I know there are options to extend coverage beyond 8 years, including the battery, but that doesn't look cheap. Hopefully new pads would be good for another 4 years at that point, and rotors still intact.

Interested in what MY20 and 21 owners are thinking. Expecting continued deep depreciation from years 6-8?

2023 here. Not worried about depreciation so keeping it to and past 8 years and 100k miles as I am with @Dee there is no match for it out there. I just purchased Extended Warranty today from @kelliporsche so game on and Kelli is just awesome to work with!

High-end EV market is dead. Just buy cheap daily commuter ev and buy 911 turbo s or gt3 for a weekend ride

I’ll be in a Boxster EV by then so I might not care. I’m on the fence about keeping the Taycan when I get it.
I’m following this exact thinking too. 718EV probably next, but it’s almost worth keeping the Taycan seeing as it was a company purchase and will be worth very little.

Alternative option is to swap for a new Taycan in 2029 but I prefer the J1.1 styling

I was visiting our local dealer last week and out of curiosity asked what my car would be worth if I bought a new Taycan. My current 2021 Taycan 4s is at 38k miles and is in immaculate shape.

The dealer's assessed purchase value is $51,000, independent of whether I buy a new car or not. Original purchase price was $145k and change, I currently have an extended warranty, and my battery SOH is 87%.

While I think the offer is fair, if/when I buy the 718 EV, I plan to keep the Taycan. It is simply a great drive and works so well for all of my use cases 😀

Resale will definitely be a consideration. If it’s worth too little I might as well keep it for those times we need to carry more than one person.

I'm on the same Boxter train, but not until late 2030 to mid 2031 (before my current warranty dies). I hope we'll have lots of other options by then (BMW, Audi and maybe we'll even let some Chinese competition in by then).

In 2029 we will consider looking at the last Taycan. It all depends how the '22 is doing then and if we want to trade her in.

As for now my first thought is to keep this one, have the extended warranty till 15 years, hope for the best on the battery pack, hope for possibility of extended battery warranty / insurance, hope for independend garages that can renew the battery pack for a reasonable price by the time it has to be done... etc

I’ve never kept an EV beyond its battery warranty. So just before year 8 I would have traded mine in for the next version.

will most likely replace with a Cayenne EV, but that won’t be until MY30

As long as you got a place to park it. I would have kept my old Model S as it was a great shape and had unlimited lifetime free supercharging. It could have come handy on a few occasions when the Taycan became undrivable and there was no loaner available immediately. My problem was where to park the Model S. Wife not a fan of having many garages, even if we were to move to a large property.

Where were no EVs to speak of 16 years ago, so presumably you are talking about one EV, at most two if you had two concurrently?

Side note. I kept one of the 4 Model S'es I owned 2 months shy of 8 years. Battery health was great, would have kept it when I picked up my Taycan (2 years after putting down first deposit), but didn't have a place to park it. Ended up selling it to a local used dealer, not even a trade-in as I didn't want to drive it 3,500 miles in the middle of winter to trade it in on the opposite side of the continent where I picked up my brand new Taycan, just to claim 10% sales tax credit. I did however drive the brand new Taycan 3,500 miles home, as that was a great way to get to know the new car).
