It is definitely not plug-and-play. A genius with a Porsche laptop might be able to enable the feature, but details on the re-coding process have not been verified.

okay, but what about this statement by Elysium above:

isn’t he implying no coding is necessary for the drive mode selection to work via the knob but just not sport+ or individual?

If you only want to switch between the standard normal/sports drive modes, then it is “plug and play”, but it would not be the full functionality of the Sports Chrono package.

It doesn’t unlock Sport Plus or Individual drive mode but outside of that, it is absolutely plug and play for switching between the drive modes that you have. It’s a little tricky to see from pictures but the ‘Sport Plus’ and ‘Individual’ options are visible but slightly greyed out and not selectable.

Wanted to add that no other modifications were necessary since I have received some PM’s asking about this. No control box swap or anything else is needed.

-Car off, key away, steering wheel straight.
-Depress pins on side of trim to release airbag.
-Disconnect airbag connectors and set airbag aside.
-Disconnect main (yellow) connector in top center and heating connector(as applicable) in mid/lower left.
-Remove main wheel bolt
-Remove wheel

Install is reverse order of the above steps. I also applied blue loctite and torqued to spec.

Not only the porsche part number, but also the TRW part numbers on the sticker?

Mine came with everything installed so it was basically just plug and play. I unfortunately do not have any pictures and it's been too long since I purchased it to view the original listings photos for the one that I purchased. I did however find one on eBay with the same description that has photos, not sure if that helps or not:

I have found out that it is indeed all about the module in the steering wheel. I tried a module from a steering wheel which came with drive mode botton and heating and then my steering wheel with my new drive mode button just works (standard functions, so no sport plus or individual). I have researched a lot of partnumbers and there is no logic in them. I think the module is the same hardware for all, but is has different firmware for the functions. But the firmware is hardcoded in. It cannot be changed bij PIWIS. Maybe if you talk to the chips directly it maybe possible.
So my hunt goes on for a module coming from a car with heating and drive mode button on the steering wheel.

62960400 + an index letter. Also the index doesn't say anything about what features the car came with. For example I have seen 62960400 with index "D" and they come with an without heating an with and without drive mode button. All combinations exist.

So to find the right module you have to know from which car it came. Either from pictures of the car or from a provided VIN number.
