Wheel diameter is the same. More metal -> less rubber -> less comfort -> better driving.

I think the most noticeable thing when I switch to the 20” winter tyres is that they are significantly quieter than the 21”.

Depends on brand more than diameter I think. PS4S regarded as a quieter tyre than Pirelli for eg. But again depends on which Pirelli etc... My Taycan very smooth on 20" PS4 - I'd say the perfect compromise between 19 and 21. But no one is going to say the ride is poor on 21" - as it isn't - the air sus is sublime!

If you look at the wheel options in the configurator, there's a small tyre icon to the top right of each wheel's picture- if you click on that tyre icon (rather than the picture of the wheel itself), a window pops up showing the product data for every make of tyre that might be supplied with that wheel from the factory, including their tested dB noise rating.
This is for the UK, I assume elsewhere as well.

GTS Sport Turismo here, 21" Mission E with Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric3 for summer, 20" Offroad Design with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 for winter. Air suspension, but no PDCC or RAS. Normal mode most of the time.

I think the summer setup is comfortably useable for any length of trip, and very smooth and precise. But small harsh bumps are an exception, they hit hard and cause some noise. The winter setup is discernibly more comfortable, but definitely also less precise. I could have preferred summer behaviour also in winter, but tyre sidewalls with 20" rims seem a bit small for the rougher winter conditions.

Fully agreed on this. Mind hovewer, that the noise/dB ratings relates to the outside noise generated by the tire when it rolls on a standardised surface (usually a large cement drum). Inside the car, this might not translate directly to how different tires affect the perceived noise in the cabin.

For many, the actual distribution of energy on the different parts of the audible spectrum, will affect wether the noise is perceived as disturbing or not. Since a moving car is not a linear system and has a lot of variables (road surface beeing one of them), one is often left with actual hit'n'miss tests to find if a specific tire, in a specific dimension, is perceived as quiet or not...

There is definitely a slightly noticeable amount more NVH with the 21" wheels and tyres, but considering the grip difference, it is 100% worth it. UK roads are atrocious, but even on 21" wheels the Taycan is incredibly composed. I'm back on my winter set now and the ride is a bit smoother, but the grip (especially on winters), has dropped an awful lot. I also compared the 20" and 21" wheels/tyres on test drives etc and again 21" combo gave you more confidence. Also, let's face it, given the right wheel choice: they look a lot better! ?

No particular experience with the Mission E wheels but I have driven the 20 inch Turbo Aero wheels (winterset with Goodyear winter tires) and these were relatively comfortable.

In spring/summer/autumn I used to drive on 21 inch Cross Turismo design wheels with Pirelli Pzeros and these are just a tiny bit less comfy as compared to the 20inch set up. Currently, I drive this 21 inch set as winter set and it is fine and comfy.

The summer set is now Vossen HF5 22 inch on conti sportcontact 6, and honestly not much diff as compared to the 21 inch set up. Also just a tiny bit but far from annoying. My RS5 B9 on 20 inch was relatively bumpy as compared to the Taycan on 22 inch.
I think for the Taycan with its great air suspension, just drive the car with the wheels you fancy, comfort wise you will be fine. I think the Taycan should at least wear 21 inch, it just looks better IMO. Comfort wise it is definitely fine.

I'm also in Florida. My previous car had 30 aspect ratio sidewalls on 275mm tires and rode stiff but not harsh. Other than a few very ugly brick roads, I never had concerns while driving anywhere with my "skinny" sidewalls.

Only a few weeks into it but I'm enjoying very much. Still learning the PCM versus Audi MMI.

Mine has the 20" Turbo Aero wheels and Michelin PS4 tires and I actually prefer the chunkier look with the Taycan.

YMMV:)
