Hi - first post so please be gentle .... sorry about the long background....

Taycan can take more than 7kw AC at 240v as standard. The Porsche Mobile Connect says its output is 9.6kw, but the only input cables as Porsche options are 400V 32A and 16A as three phase - or 16A only as 240V single phase (i.e. around 3kw only).

I could easily fabricate a 32A cable to fit the same 240V plug type as the single phase 16A one - and plug that into a standard single phase 32A supply. There is no single phase 32A option according to Porsche UK confuserator.

Questions:

1)
If plugged into a 32A single phase 240V supply would the Mobile Charger Connect then supply 7kw? or is the charger for some reason limited to only pull enough current to supply at 3kw? (like the 16A input). It would be disappointing if it is constrained to 3kw output on single phase especially at the price.

2) Failing that, has anyone any recommendations for a high-quality third party single phase 32A 240V 7+kw mobile charger? There are a few out there - but most look a bit cheap and cheerful (half the cost of the Porker one)

Why Mobile? My kids all live within max range (just) of the Taycan - and I would fit them each up with a dedicated 32A Socket - and use my mobile charger at their houses - would be like my own private charging network ;)

cheers

I have received an answer thanks - the 32A 240V single phase cable is supplied as standard (missed that) - so why would you buy a 16A version from the options list? The 32A version would serve both 32A and 16A - weird!! Anyways - I already got my answer thanks

The 32A plug is a different diameter as the 16A. Both in 240V and 400V

Did you manage to get a 32A supply cable from Porsche, and if so, did you need to pay for it? I optioned the 16A supply cable too, thinking i would get that and the standard 32A supply cable. Now i can only change at 3.5kW.

Sorry T - not received my car yet so still not 100%....

- but OPC confirmed it's an 'either or' and not a both (but TBH - he did not fill me with confidence) ..

still can't understand the logic .....

It is pretty clear on the configurator and what the standard spec of the car is (many folk have omitted to read the latter).

Some people can't get a 32A supply and so 16A are offered as an alternative.

The number of pins is also different- 16A blue industrial connector has three whereas the red 32A has 5 and will support 3 phases. For each of these the supply receptacle is different and matches the pins depending on what cable you have.

Always try to run a 32A supply from your mains and terminate with the corresponding receptacle. The standard cables supplied with your PMC+ / PMCC will be 32A and no need therefore to substitute with the 16A cable.

It would be nice if they advised us of this at the spec appointment!

Thanks Adrian. My sparky is fine to convert everything else, it's just that porsche are saying that it's up to him just to re wire it, which obviously isn't correct!
