Hi UK folks -

Has anyone yet had an OPC change their PSCB pads? Any idea of cost for the job?

I think the pads have to go at 6 years regardless of mileage/wear.... Would getting this job done at a decent independent (approved / access to car/records etc.) - and then get the actual 6 years service done at the OPC - fly with the extended warranty?

I think (hope) the discs will be OK 🤞🤞🤞

Just weighing how long to keep the car...

Cheers

I had PSCB pads/ discs done at 67k miles due to corrosion of the coating. £9k at Porsche Colchester. Luckily I wasn’t paying as company car…. Service, a couple of tyres and an 11k bill later…

As long as Porsche approved parts wouldn’t impact warranty although read somewhere these parts are only available at Porsche so it would just be the labour saving. Haven’t looked into it though so unverified.

Porsche/Audi (shared components) is the only manufacturer of Tungsten Carbide coated brakes. I'll be surprised there is an aftermarket or even the OEM willing to sell this under their brand.

Here in the US, should I be in this situation, the only other manner is to buy the brake parts at a small discount from a different dealer and install it yourself (or at a independent shop).

Similarly for PCCBs, even after 20 years, there is still no cheap (&consensually reliable) aftermarket option.

My local dealer even went so far as to refusing to install Porsche parts not purchased by them. (Obviously to make money).

IMO, the Taycan is such a low maintenance car that the high cost of PSCB replacement should be viewed as "pay to play". They're going to get you back on brake fluid and rotors and pads considering there is no other real material servicing costs on the car.

I myself plan to sell the car before PSCB service.lol

There are plenty PCCB aftermarket equivalent.
CT14 has a post somewhere on the forum on how he replaced his stock iron with PCCB equivalent from china at a fraction of the cost.
It's not exactly rocket science to make carbon discs to a specific size.

As for PCSB, i am not aware of any after market ones either. Most manufacturers don't bother, as they could simply just sell PCCB like discs.

If my PCSB discs go, i'll just buy after market full carbon discs in the size and coresponding pads.

Just to clarify a bit -

It's PSCB (surface coated) and not PCCB that I am interested in.....;

and, its warranty compliant pads I am interested in and not discs or OEM

Many thanks folks.

Seems odd that the pads must be replaced at 6 years regardless of wear. I won’t have more than 50K at 6 years and have no plan to replace pads in Southern California if there are no signs the brakes are degrading.
It’s a wear item so why does it matter to the extended warranty?
My Boxster never needed pads or rotors after 20 years & 42K miles.
I’ll be dead or in a walker before I hit 100K on my Taycan…

Can you send me your invoice / costs?

I need to do mine soon
The service including the pads, plus all other items forth 6 year service came to about 3700 Euros. Disks were fine and not replaced.

But I now do not have any brake recuperation when using the brake pedal?? Surprisingly after having driven the car 1100 km after service. So back to the workshop once again. Getting so tired of the repeated revisits!

I do not have the invoice electronically and no working scanner here.

I also not very happy that they charge us 180 Euros to just plug in their PIWIS tool. They can nordost anything without it so why charge us?
