True.
But in those countries unless you want to change your tyres every time some winter weather comes in, you really have no other choice than to drive 4-5 months with the winter tyres.
Of course, if you live in the countries concerned then it's impractical to not change to winter tyres, unless you have alternative transport. But then people who live in these countries probably won't need educating on the law. My clarification was for people who are reading this thread and may visit one of these countries for a short period. Living in the Netherlands but close to the border with Germany, I often visit Aachen for a few hours at a time. Knowing the intricacies of the law on winter tyres in Germany is therefore vitally important. Around freezing, then I won't go.

Snow tires should also be named "cold weather tires". You car weight 2.5t, you want the best grip in all condition and I'd say certainly when it's raining and freezing. Yes, I would buy "winter" tires if I were you. You got the best for the winter & the best for the summer.

I have the NFO Eagle Touring on one of our Model Y's at home and they are okay handling wise.
Do note that they only have the M+S marking on the tire and not the new 3PMSF (which is now required in Germany)

Also on the RWD BMW I run Conti SportContact 7 in summer and Goodyear Vector 4seasons gen-3 as a 'winter' tire because it performs better than a winter tire for the time I use it.
