When I’m at the gym I’ll often watch YouTube videos related to Porsche or specific to electric cars. Recently, saw a couple of videos about adding range to the battery pack by running it down to just a couple of miles, then letting the car sit for six hours. Charging to 100%, letting it sit plugged in for six hours before driving. No technical information I can share without sounding foolish but, was described as letting the battery empty itself and refilling “retrained” the battery. Well my 2025 Taycan Cross Turismo had 333 miles (up from 290 on average). Just to make me a believer, I drove about 100 miles today and ended up almost spot on with 230 miles of range left. I believe you can repeat this process on occasion if needed as per the videos but, will assess how the car responds as I keep it at the recommended 80-85% daily charge maximum. If anyone would like to chime in on the process (pros and cons), I’d be interested to learn more.

the procedure allows the BMS to rebalance the cells in the battery and recalibrate the miles.

You're describing the procedure for a cell rebalance. Recommended periodically for EVs - I believe the context is that cells get out of balance as they get older, and that cumulatively, the set up reduces State of Health (SoH) and perhaps possible range. Someone more informed will explain it better and more accurately...

I've done it twice on my 2020 Taycan (summer 2025 and May 2026) and the SoH went up from ~84.5% to ~89.5% (approximating) each time.
I'm guessing the SoH increase is supposed to correlate to range increase, but I can't say that definitively.

But yours is a newer car, and the cells may not be that out of balance, so not sure you'll gain from it. The process doesn't just magically add range....

This is called a rebalance and documented in the official TSB.
The car reports Range via a calculation using the worst cell capacity in the pack.
The rebalance levels up cell capacity so the Range reported by the car increases, but only temporarily, at least on the J1.1 cars.

I rebalance every 5k miles.
The additional benefit is that bad cells come forward during this process.

I read SoH and capture Battery cell graphs every 1k miles.

How does one view the SoH?
