Hi,

As I understand it - not sure - Porsche tend to cluster pre-authorised custom colour (CC) orders into batches. Is this correct?

if it is......

Does anyone know if Porsche allocate a main CC production batch at the end of an MY, to encourage people to accept a current MY with CC, or..... face rejecting the slot in order to get a car in the new MY - and going toward the back of the queue waiting for a new slot?

This would help smooth demand vs production at end of an MY when people tend to wait for the new one.

Cheers

Porsche produces PTS cars throughout the MY build cycle. I have a PTS MY18 991.2 GT3. Car was supposed to be built in Nov 17, production slid to Feb 18. Porsche does seem to group cars of similar colors.

You dealer does need to have an allocation that can be put in as PTS. The order window for PTS cars tends to be very short. My car took 9 months, and this was pre-covid.

Thanks t - that is very helpful - and encouraging for me....

Please clarify - I guess you are including 'pre approved colours' from the list in 'PTS' - and not just 'paint to sample' non-approved colours that need a feasibility study?

Cheers and thanks again

The pre approved colors are considered PTS by Porsche, they are colors that have been tested and approved for a given model. The color list is model specific. I was told by Porsche Exclusive, that if you want to do a true paint to sample, the feasibility testing could take 2+ years and it's not a given the color will be approved. So depending on the model you are ordering, in my case a GT3, if it took 2 years it would not have been a 991.2 as production would have been over.

Ah - I was told that the pre-approved colours were considered as 'custom colours' ie a specific term - and these could be delivered within present 'short' order lead-in timeframes.

and 'colour to sample' or 'paint to sample' was the term for non-approved colours that could take ages, need a feasibility study and may not be approved - and if it is approved is could be in production at any time of year.

My question on batching, only relates to higher-volume 'custom colours' -i.e. pre-approved ones - which I think are clustered into set periods during a year.

I just wondered if these pre-approved 'custom colour' production batches (ie not PTS) are multiple during the year - or just one main one.

So it's just a difference in the understanding of terminology - no worries

cheers

You're right it looks like Porsche has changed things in the last 4 years, now a custom color, which was the old paint to sample. Then for 2x the price you can do a true paint to sample. True PTS cars will be rare due to the cost.

The pre approved custom colors (PTS) have certain months out of the year that the paint shop is allocated for.
As stated previous your dealer will have this.
It's a grid of the PTS month, with Taycan model variants the dealer has allocations for.
In July 2021 When I was looking for a PTS turbo, my dealer (AutoNation in California) had 2 slots for turbos in December, a few 4s, 1 turbo S.
Taycan factory PTS was for December 2021.
You should start seeing PTS Taycans appear in public around March.

There are certain times throughout the year for PTS. 3x to 4x but nothing set in stone. That's why you hear these long delays

Higher volume dealers get more allocations, hence more PTS allocations.
If a dealer doesn't pre sell those slots to a customer, they will spec out their own, throw in on their showroom floor, ask a huge premium for it.
Some dealers are more daring with colors than others.

You probably missed the December allocation.
The next dates should be spring/summer is my guess, delivery 3 months after.

True PTS that you create your own color can take over a year, maybe 2, requires a refundable deposit and there is no guarantee it will be approved.

This is very helpful Mr. Smith thanks - At the moment I am told Q1 2023 for a Turbo - I am hoping that if I go for pre-approved Custom Colour - my slot does not come forward into July - as I would prefer an MY23.

Also the confuserator states minimum 6 month lead in for custom colours.

cheers

Porsche only does PTS for Taycan in December 2022 or your dealer doesn't have allocations for PTS any earlier?

What pre approved color are you looking at?

I can also see how there could be less Taycan PTS dates than 911

I have not ordered Custom Colour yet - I am seriously considering it - my uncustomised slot presently is Q1 2023 - but I don't want it to come forward too early - Talking to my dealer tomorrow on this - hence my fact gathering today

Have not selected a colour yet

cheers

Spoke to my dealer today - and he confirmed that you can order custom colour and specify a 'not before' date for production. Which means I can specify MY23.

So I am in due process now - going in to the dealers soon to sort it.

Thanks for all the help

Gonna be a long wait!

See if he has an idea of what months the factory has specified for Taycans PTS.

Good luck

Any updates on the PTS production dates in the Zuffenhausen factory?
Sorry Paul - I did not get that far - It was done over 3 phone calls - and late in the day (I think he was running late).

The dealer took my request for an MY23 car to central UK planning - and came back 30 mins later with an offer to match. To start he said production in July22 for an MY23 car - I was concerned that would not work - but he insisted it was OK.

Next day I rang again and asked him to explain production in Jul22=MY23? He corrected this to 'the allocation' was July, not the production...... and that the production slots had not been 100% confirmed, but would be sometime Sept/Oct - for delivery late Oct/Nov/Dec - definitely MY23.

He admitted things were a bit fluid at the moment and it was a case-by-case situation - at least for the UK.

No other slots were offered or discussed since I got what I asked for.

Sorry I can't help further
