Well, this weekend I had a sudden urge to go eat a Paella in Seville. Didn't planned anything beforehand. Had 49% battery. I considered to charge up at 50kw near my home before leaving but it was almost lunch time. Input Seville as destination into the car, it predicted I would reach a ionity charger en route at 13% left... Let's do it. What could possibly go wrong, right?

I've been treating trips in the Taycan like if it were a plane trip. Destination is Airport A but have enough "fuel" to divert to Airport B if necessary. Well, this time I was like... if ionity doesn't work, we're screwed anyway (I don't understand how charging works in Spain (and rest of europe) but let's do it.

We went conservatively (At 120km/h within speed limit - Didn't want to get nailed in a foreign country) and reached the ionity station at 16% SoC (Not surprising since those 13% were based on my usual driving behavior, which isn't the best, I admit ?)

One thing that annoyed me is that, for some reason, ionity stations in Spain (at least the ones after Huelva) don't have any shade. Come on, Southern Spain is a furnace in the Summer. Spend a little and put some shade. We have shades on most, if not all, Chargers that are placed on the highway, ionity included here in Portugal.

Anyway, this was the first time since I got the car that I used ionity and also "plug & charge" (which isn't supported in Portugal). I was impressed, not going to lie.

Went for a coffee, toilet, checked out the store and when I was back, the car was already at 85% like... wow.

I don't know what the maximum charge rate was but while I went to the bathroom, I checked the porsche app and it showed this:

Pretty good I guess :)

After reaching Seville and having my Paella, I realized that most Shopping malls have a HUGE amount of free destination chargers. I ended staying at a nice hotel which also had Tesla Destination Chargers (being the red one for Tesla and the white for "other" EVs). I charged the car overnight to 100% and went back home.

Charging en route has really become a non issue for me
Really nice charging rate. The best I remember getting so far was just under 260KW.

Indeed yeah. I wonder what it was at the stall itself since the car will always read a little under due to losses.

The charging session did kill 0.1% of my SoH but hey, who's checking, right? ?

Just so say that today I've reached 1 megawatt of used energy in my Taycan. Woah!

I also managed to curb my front left wheel while leaving a restaurant. Damage isn't big but it annoyed me. Will have to buff it out. Since the rims are diamond cut, it only scrubbed a bit of the shiny part. Shouldn't be too hard to polish.

Wow.

Over a year later I return to my thread ?

What has happen in between?

Not much really. I clocked 32000 km in about 18 months and just had my 30.000km inspection (at whopping €298 which included €119 for the cabin filter)

During my first year of ownership, I only experienced 2 issues.

The first was when my air suspension compressor seized with a few strange Pcm messages which took a few days for Porsche to diagnose and fix (there's a separated thread for that) and the second one was the battery of my fob depleting.

That's about it! God I love this car ?

I most likely need a tire change next Monday (at my tire guy) as my local Porsche Dealership stated during inspection that "Your tires are shot and the car is undriveable". Yet they took it for a 10km "spin" after they executed the ARB0 recall and 3 software updates because the PCM was throwing some "error".

But they're right. Tires have 32k km on them and are starting to be worn out (I checked them). Not "undriveable" though. Didn't do it at the dealership because the prices are a ripoff (€600 more than what my Tire guy charges for the same tire set) and they also wanted to mix Goodyear Asymmetric 5 in front with Asymmetric 3 in the back. Rather have it done properly.

And that's about it.

I guess I'll report next when I get to the 60k inspection?

Cheers

Tony

So... back from my Tyre Shop. The owner states the guys at the Dealership must be smoking something good. Staff checked all 4 tires, still 2mm tread left above minimum mark. Sure, they're approaching end of life but "undriveable" is a bit far fetched. I told him to order the tires anyway and will be replacing them "soon". No need to panic. His quoted price is also €608 cheaper for the set than what the dealership quoted me.

Cheers.

Sounds about right. I guess the minimum wear bars on the Goodyears are at 1.6 mm, ie the legal limit. Porsche however recommend that the tyres should not be less than 3 mm. But to say that the car is undrivable sounds crazy!

And yes buying tyres from Porsche normally means at least 50% extra charge. Some Porsche garages try to price match, but most will argue that they are getting the premium tyres from Goodyear while tyre shops will get a less quality! Called BS!

I am not sure it is a problem mixing Assymetric 3 and 5 tyres, as long as both tyres on the same axle is of the same spec. But always best to be safe with the Performance that the Taycan can produce.

I thought so too. The way they talked about it, it seemed like I had steel wires protruding from the tires (I once had that with a MB... ? ) which isn't the case. I will change them nevertheless. Just not in "panic mode".

My Tire Dealer will put Asymmetric 5 all around.

I really wanted to try the Hankook iON evos but they're not NF0 rated (the 285 are though... just not the 265) but talking with the Dealership mechanic he advised against it because of possible warranty issues and that they wouldn't offer extended warranty at the end of the normal warranty period unless I changed the tires back to NF0. Rather not play with fire since some stuff on the Taycan can be extremely expensive.

Yes I was in the same situation when I changed last time. we got Hankook tyres on our i4 delivery. And they are really quiet. BMW seem to have worked with Hankook to fit these. Quiet at speed, very good grip in the wet and rated well for economy.

I was so pleased with the Hankkoks that I even put them on our M5, with equally pleasing results. Excellent grip in the wet and also very quiet compared to older Michelins Super Sport. They could have been very old and dry though, so perhaps not quite a valid comparison.

I have seen a lot of Porsches delivered with Hankook tyres, just not in the size with 21 inch. I have also noted that Michelin have a EV tyre but could not find any information about them.

But for me the Goodyears have been a very positive experience on the Taycan, so no complaints about them at all.
