Many governments (local or federal) are pushing for car electrification but the infrastructure (power grid, charging network, fire departments) is not ready for it. The other area that will soon become a problem is the disposal/recycling of old batteries. I don't think there is any comprehensive plan for what to do with those huge batteries which are full of harmful chemicals.

Some aspects of this story were subsequently “clarified”. But I do agree that EVs are a new challenge to first responders, whether read-in on the topic or otherwise.

They could probably dump 100 gallons of liquid nitrogen instead of 28,000 gallons of water.

Liquid nitrogen is $2/liter or ~$900 for 100 gallons.
Water would be $1059 for 28,000 gallons.

The chance of a burning BEV is proven TEN times less than a conventional ICE car. Most fire are due bad wiring in the chargers (Charger catches fire....and than the car)

A burning BEV needs a different approach and other material. The fire departments are learning fast.

Burning EV's (Tesla's) are very popular clickbait in newspapers. Keep that in mind. You almost never read about a burning ICE car.
