How to use charging timers

Last night i set a charging timer for 8am to reach 85%
car immediately charged to 25% as she should and than pauzed. During the night she charged and at 8 am was finished. However; at 100%
what am I doing wrong? I used the myPorsche app to set timers

I’m using the setting planned departure, for daily charging. Only ‘overwrite’ when during daytime charging on the solar panels (direct charge)

Ehmmm. Good question! I honestly don’t know for sure. She did do the 8:00am perfectly though, so that implies that I did?
Gonna give it another try next charge!!

These functions are not logical so we have so much content on the forum about it since pretty much all got confused on how to use them.

I am going to try to make it simple. The Timer cannot be a one time event as you set it and showing it. Not logical, but that is how it is programmed to work. Your one time Timer reached 85% and then started to look for the next instruction, and since there was none, it went to 100%, so totally proper operation.

The way to use the Timer is that it must be recurring (Repeat function), only then it will stop on Monday at 85% and then will see a Tuesday and then stop. If you do not want it every day, then you have to set a dummy Timer event far in the future so the actual current Timer stops at 85% as a hack so to speak.

I do not want to overcomplicate any more at this time, but let's start to making it recurring and then go from there.

It will have been sent to the car - how else would the car have charged (!) based on the parameters you set (% and time)?

Which generation of Taycan do you have? J1.1 has both a Profile and Departure Timer which was then changed with the J1.2 which has a Departure Timer with advanced settings (Profiles where dropped) - charging windows etc.

As mentioned you need to make sure that the next timed event is also set - e.g. a recurring time which will kick in when you connect your EVSE.

The OP is J1.1 and new to the car.

My advice also is that the simplest way to charge is to just use the Profile, unless there is a reason to use a Timer for just in time charging to target.

I used to like Timers and just got tired of them as it is a trickle charges the battery over a period of time. Profile just gets you to the target as soon as possible and then the car is not bothered.

The only use case for using a Timer, in my view is that if you want just in time charging to 100% for the long trip, or you want to precondition the car that does not require a charging setting.

Also, want to point out to level set, that regardless of the settings the car will charge to 25% when plugged in and then look for the next instruction in Profile including preferred times or Timers. The OP was right on stating that so there is no confusion why this is happening, as if to say that when someone want to charge in a Preferred window, that is not happening if the car is below 25% at plug in time and not in a Preferred window.

You possibly also had a profile set to charge to 100%, so check your profiles since they may have priority over the timer.

Other thing to check is direct charging is not set to on, but since you said the charge stopped at 25%, it suggests direct charging was set to off.

Thanks for all the useful insights! Indeed I’m very new to Taycan, to EV even.
My Taycan is a ‘22 J1.1

When looking at the profiles I couldn’t figure out how to set the max % of charge. Is it automatically on 85% then? A screenshot of my charging profile page is attached.

The timers however are very interesting: Being on a dynamic energy contract.. well timed charges are on negative electricity prices Getting rich by making more km’s!

I don’t have a dayjob so my chargingschemes are not set. Whenever it’s time to charge I wanna plug in and set up a profile or timer to charge at the cheepest time of day. This is variable from day to day, it can be night or early afternoon.
I don’t mind setting up the profile or timer every time I need to charge, probably it’s a good idea to make a few different ptofiles or timers to choose from at the moment I need it.
Is this workable somehow?

Otherwise the car will charge until the limit set by the timer, say 85, and then will continue charging until the limit set by the profile, in this case 100% likely

This has been how it has worked on j1.1 since I’ve owned the car, so for 6 years
