Had my MY2022 Taycan CT charging last evening as usual with a target of 85%. Charge completed this morning as expected. The only error message on the phone app was, "Unable to reach the set target charge". This happens frequently even though the target charge of 85% was reached.

I went to unplug the J1772 connector and it would not release. The car was unlocked in the garage when I started the charge. The first thing I tried was unlocking the car with the key fob, even though it was already unlocked. I thought about pulling the emergency release cord in the door jamb, but decided against that until I checked the online manual. I found a reference to the software unlock feature and gave it a try. Every time I selected the option to unlock the port, the car would re-lock the port before I had time to exit the cabin and remove the plug.

I then decided to cut the power to the EVSE by flipping the circuit breaker to the off position. After doing that, I was able to select the unlock port option from the central screen, get out of the car, and remove the plug.

At this point I don't know if the EVSE or the car caused the problem. If this happens repeatedly with the Grizzle EVSE I will either try the passenger side port, or the Porsche charger that came with the car to try to troubleshoot the problem.

You don’t mention pressing the button next to the power socket to release the connector. Did u do that?

Yes, I also forgot to mention at one point the button turned red but only for a second. Next time this happens I will note the exact sequence of things I tried.

When the button is red it can mean a loss of communication with the charger. Sounds like a possible problem with the charger. Would be good to try the supplied Porsche charger.

Unfortunately, I was not very methodical when I tried various things to release the plug. The red light might have come on when I pressed the button after I flipped the breaker to the off position.

I tried the portable Porsche charger (with the 220v Nema 6-50 plug) and I was able to remove the J1772 connector without any issues after the charging session ended.

I then tried the Grizzl-E Classic EVSE on the same driver side port and again was not able to remove the connector until I cut the power at the circuit breaker panel and unlocked the port from the dashboard. I then tried the Grizzl-E EVSE on the passenger port and encountered the same locked port problem.

I wrote a note to Grizzl-E tech support and will report back when I hear from them. Until I get this locked port matter resolved I will use the Porsche EVSE.

I read that the PCM Charging plug option is described as stops the charging process and temporarily unlocks charging plug. It is interesting that the amount of time the port was unlocked for you varied depending upon whether power was on or off to the EVSE.

In my situation of plug locked at DC fast charger, I had stopped charging at the fast charger device, but the PCM plug unlock option was no longer available, because charging had stopped and the Taycan charging screen said it had stopped.

In your case, you cut power to the EVSE, but still had access to the PCM plug unlock option.

I can understand the Taycan locking the plug if it believes charging is still occurring, but once charging has stopped, and vehicle is unlocked, plug ought to be unlocked. Since ultimately it is the car that enables and disables charging (assuming the EVSE is supplying power) I don't understand why the Grizzli EVSE would be at fault here, if the car is behaving properly.

Does the Grizzli have some timing feature in which it might be intermittently supplying power to the car? (and thereby attempting to "restart" a charging session on the Taycan)?

I don't have a Grizzli, but I'm very interested in the Taycan's plug unlocking process.

I have used the PMC+ several times without issues since dealing with the stubborn Grizzl-E connector. As I recall the last thing I tried to remove the plug when it was stuck was to restart charging with Direct Charging and press the button next to the port. The plug was released and I have not tried the Grizzl-E since. I am waiting for a reply from Grizzl-E support. It’s been several days without a response so I started looking for another L2 EVSE. I would like to try the Grizzl-E in another car. But I would feel bad if it got stuck in someone’s car.

Finally had a chance to try the Grizzl-E charger with my EQS 450 SUV. Charged to the target SoC of 80% and had no issues removing the plug. So the Grizzl-E seems to be working correctly. This is good since the manufacturer never replied to my requests for help diagnosing the problem. I would not recommend getting a Grizzl-E charger due to the lack of customer support.
