MagSafe for Storage Compartment

Has anyone attempted to install a MagSafe charger in the storage area in front of the console? Would seem to be a better place as easy to place phone and not have the overheating issue while charging and using Apple car play. Have given up on the wireless charging and just place my phone on long car trips in the holder for better cell connection with the induction option turned off.
